Not looking forward to it but the stack really needs to be dissembled for a proper job. Any major gottcha's?? Whole lotta snap rings and small phillps screws on this puppy :-) Thanks in advance!! Creighton

Can't be a whole lot different than the rest of the stacks. I take lots of pics when I break down something new so I have something to follow when I put it back together. Also, I try to do it in one sitting so everything is fresh on the brain.

Will be a bunch of pics and drawings of where the camera fails. Great advice and critical for success. This one will be fun. Rough count is 16 springs. 35 snap rings, 120 screws and a chain drive that is still a bit of a mystery. Thanks! Creighton

Hi Creighton, Not sure if it will help in your endeavor or not, but I emailed you scans of my Vendo 56 63 90 126 manual showing the breakdown and parts list of the can stack for these models. Also, you might give the winner of this eBay auction (item # 6247085972) an email and he might email you scans from the Cav USS manual he won. Good Luck!

Creighton... I thought about tearing mine down when I first got the machine. Somewhere down the line, a can must have leaked and it was a mess inside. I started looking at taking the trays out, and decided it was easier to use the dremel with some sanding disks and a whole lot of elbow grease to clean it and remove as much of the surface rust as possible. I didn't have the cahones to try a complete dissassembly. I replaced a few of the levers on the front of mine, but thats about as far as I wanted to go.
From what I can tell, the chain sets up the machine for the next vend cycle. When the tray is rotated to take an item, it pulls on the chain and releases the vend actuator so only one selection can be made. I bought the manual on the machine from Steve.. I'll have a look to see if there is a good breakdown of the stack.

Creighton, you should tear down and rebuild your R T Vendo 56 bottle stack first, since it is so much simpler. Then you will decide if you want to tackle a Cavalier............( I wouldn't).

I agree. The Vendo 56 bottle stack is easier. Do that one first. I am tearing down my Motts Vendo 56 bottle stack (pictures anyone???) and it is easier then the Cavalier. If you need help on the Cavalier, I think I may be able to talk you through it. I have one dis-assembled .

Thanks for all of the help and suggesstions!! Looks like by removing the selector knobs and the face plate the bottle/can rockers will slide free of the rest of the assembly. This will give me access to clean the rest and much easier to clean paint the bottle/can rockers. Pics soon. Thanks again!! Creighton

I dunno about that.... I removed the knob, and the tray was loose, but didn't not want to come out without removing some stuff from the back. I loosened 2 screws on the back, and still needed more so I said fuggetaboutit.... If you find an easy way to do it, lemme know.

I have to tell you guys something. I am an absolute idiot when it comes to anything mechenical. However, I take about 100 digital pictures as I am tearing stuff apart. That way, even I can't screw it up. My advise is to tear down the bottle stack and take a picture of every screw if necessary. You will be much happier with the results. Also, I have asked guys like Matt (the minit pop guy) and Curtis Kauffmann (restores just about everything) for their help whem I'm stuck, which is about all the time. Today for example I took apart a Lerge Seeburg teardrop speaker that I bought last week, I tore it down and even removed the blue mirror glas pieces (about 100 of them). Now I have no idea how I will put it back together but with the help of my friends I will put it back together after I paint it.
Take some risks and you will be better for it.

Heres the basics of a tear down of a USS-64 bottle/can stack. Attached pics are where I stopped. In my case don't need to go any further. Anybody want more pictures just let me know. Creighton

I have LOTS of detailed pics of the teardown for a VMC56 rack. If anyone wants them, just PM with your email address and any attachment size limits.
