More arcade games

Kate and I just got back from an arcade auction. It was supposed  to be all kinds of coin op but it was just arcades and a few newer jukeboxes. Most everything went for huge money but there was a section that was an as is probably doesn't work section that things went rather cheep. Well I bought two non working games. I think they should be easy to get going. The Turbo game needs a monitor and one side of the final lap seems to be working except the pedal. I couldn't figure out why I bought them once they were in the truck but oh well. We got the Turbo for $10 and the final lap for $25 so either way we arent out much. What do you think? Does anyone know of a good parts supplier? I will atach some pics below.

Cool! How many sections did the Final Lap break in to?  Looks like a beast!
Places that I go for parts are Arcade Shop Amusement and Mike's Arcade.  Some people also go to The Real Bob Roberts.
For board repairs I have had Mike's Arcade fix my Ms. Pac-Man and there is also HyperSpace Arcade.

Thanks I will check them out. The final lap only breaks into two pieces. The seats and the game. It was tough getting them out of my truck. But Kate and I were able to get the job done. But I think I might have broken my left thumb. Man does it hurt.

Those are neat. Not too bad a price if its most of the way there, in my totally uneducated opinion.

Just for the sake of curiosity Josh, did you happen to a machine/game named Cruis N' USA at the auction? I'm not looking to buy one, but I was wondering if they ever even came up for sale.

Yep a working one was there as well as a cruis' n exotica. They went for something like $800 to $1000 each. My sister wanted a newer driving game for her collection that I started and her limit was $500. There were no driving games that worked that sold for less than $600 no matter how old. Prices were really high. Some of the 36 in one games went for as high as $1,800. I was really supprised. There were at least 300 games there and only about 75 people bidding and only about 10 or 15 people really bidding. Even the coin op pool tables were going for $300+.

Wow. The USA game is so old, the last one I saw running had an advertisment for Nintendo Ultra 64 on it, which I would say puts it before Jan '96. Did you happen to see one that wasn't thought to be working?

Nope just the one. Ill bet there were 50 ms pacman's and 15 Galaga's. Some working and some not. You could tell that most of the games there were the junk that distributers didn't want on location anymore.It was alot of fun. I think everything had a problem or two with it but some things were really nice. I can't wait to start tinkering with these two. I want to get one of them working to give to my nephew. He really wants a driving game.

It depends on condition and if they worked. The lowest I saw was a non working machine in an Ok cabnet went for $100 and working ones were going for something in the $400 and $500 area. I am sorry I didn't post this before I went but I found it in the sunday paper last week and it was at the same time as another auction I wanted to go to and I had both ads cut out on my desk. The other was for tools and I decided not to go to it. kate and I decided to sleep in today but I woke up early anyway and said we might as well go to the auction. I am glad we did. It was alot of fun. Even if we did buy two piece of junk games.

My wife's uncle is giving her three arcade games that is in storage. One is a football game that was one of my favorites back in the late 70's. It has a big trackball that you use to move the players. Not sure what the others are yet. Will post pictures when I get them. '>

It was a lot of fun, but I'm still partial to Space Invaders Deluxe which I should have never sold.

The biggest thing I can remember with the football game was my hands hurt after playing for a while... Smacking the trackball was brutal on my palms.

I don't think I ever played the football game.  I think around that time I spent my quarters on electro-mechanical pinballs, Night Driver and Fire Truck!

Well I went and tinkered with the Final lap game and I found the manual inside. I did get one side working so all I need to do is work on the other side.

Is Final Lap one of the games where you can race each other or play individually?

Yes it was also the first game to be able to link up with others. It is possible to link it with 8 other cabnets so 16 people can race each other. The one side works just fine but the other side still wont power up. although when you shut it down the screen does that thing old monitors do when turned off. I don't know how to describe it but it lights up from the outside and goes to the middle but the light is a redish color. I still need to hook up the speakers so there is no sound. But I am thinking the other side might be playing and the monitor is bad. I cant tell because there is no sound. The speakers are in the headrests of the seats and I think the connector was cut.

Sure sounds like a dead monitor. What you describe was never good. Be very carefull!! Those can zap you dead.

I hope thats all it is. I found the manual inside it today and it describes how to discharge the monitor prior to removing it. I will try swapping monitors to see if thats all it is. That would be great. I can get a monitor for about $75. That would make me only have $100 in it total. My nephew really wants this one so if I can get it going it is his. The only problem is it might not fit down their stairs so we might have to find a way to take the cabnet apart.

Creighton speaks rightly Josh. I would hold out for a new monitor, buying used will save you money, but it may last a day, a week, or a year, but in the long run, it's not worth it.

Yeah I know. Good idea on the switching boards. However I would want to test everything lik ethe pedals, steering wheel, and shifter as well. if there is too much wrong with it I am not going to fix it. I will just throw it in ebay and try and get my $25 back out of it. If not I figure I can part out the one side that does work or If I cant get the sega turbo to work I was thinking I could possibly do an entire cabnet change on the side that does work. Each side is completly independent from the other side so it should work. I just want to give my nephew a driving game but I don't have much $$$. He is getting quite a collection. He already has the Ms pacman, tetris, and space Invaders Kate and I got him for Christmas and I think he also has every console ever made. Not too bad for a five year old. I have also given his dad a Coke machine and a Pepsi machine. I think the little guy is slightly spoiled.

Lucky tike!! That little guy will have the hobby down by the time he is 7 :-) Don't think it's spoiled just giving the next generation a leg up.
