It was me... I'm dying to find a Stoner Jr and a gum wall mount... Will be watching this one. About a year there was a 8 pull with the gum dispenser still mounted on the side way up North too far for me.... can't remember what it went for. Hopefully this will be the year.......Thanks

To Brian B:
I also think it is important to recognize restoring to the "original" way it was intended. Unfortunately, the original Stoners were not that attractive. They did not have the modern paints that we have today. I have enclosed before and after pictures of my 1955 Stoner Theatre. I do not like the original wood grain look very much. They used the wood grain paint so it would fit in with the old style decore used in movie houses in the 40s and 50s. The original hammertone finish was also popular in the art deco styling of the 40s. With todays paints, I think candy machines should look bright, shiny, and inviting to children. I have tried to recreate this with my restorations. I would like to know what other people think as well.

I agree with you 100% on not liking the woodgrain "effect". It's tacky and ugly at the same time.
Your Theatre looks great. My comment about being more of a purist is just my opinion. I never force my ideas of "what is right" on others because that's all it is, my idea.
To me, the fact that you have saved a rare machine and preserved it so it wouldn't meet the same fate as many of it's steely brothers is awesome. Too many of these wonderful machines have gone the way of the dinosaur.
I'd love to get my hands on a Stoner Gum Machine...And a Stoner Coffee Machine......dream a little dream '>

It all comes down to personal preference... If and when I come across a Stoner I'll put it back to an original state... I agree the wood grain would have to go but I'd probably go Hammer Green. But also I like the all red versions Brian C has done. Just, to me, I don't know if I'd go with all the decals along the sides and pin striping. All my soda machines will go “Off the line” look no pin stripes or decaled up. We've had this question pop up before. I like the look of some machines the way they were, but some, like the newer square tops, when restoring look good with decals... I don't mind decals... heck... I'm in the middle of trying to design some decals for the group... I want something that was... not fantasy...
My 72 has a decal faded on the front along the bottom that I want to rebuild and have made... I'll snap a image of it and post it... It's a great alternitive to the big 10cent and will give the all white doors more color.
Brian C your stuff looks awesome and if your selling candy out of them they are definitely eye catching. And agree you've saved something that may have ended up being crushed and junked..... Which is still hard for me to believe when I see this stuff... I can't believe that all people aren't hooked collecting.... This stuff is awesome. No matter how they are restored.

Eric and Brian:
Thanks for the kind words. Candy is always free at my home. I take the coin mechs out to avoid potential jamming problems. The kids love to come over and help themselves. Last summer, I set up a Vendo 56 (my first restoration project and it shows) can machine and my mint green stoner candy machine outside under my awning and let the nighborhood kids come over and help themselves. I set coin mech on the 56 for dime. What a bargain!!! They both sat outside all summer long. I hope the kids will remember this and will be able to tell their grandchildren about it some day. Someone has to keep the torch lit. I have 4 children and they all love the finished restorations even though I get little or no help with the restoration process. I admit, I may go a little overboard with the candy machines. They did not look anything like this when they rolled off the assemble lines more then 50 years ago. I am much more of a purest on the restorations of my "round tops".
If you have a dime, my back yard Vendo 56 Square top will get you an ice cold can of Pepsi. All are welcome.
