The Last time I used forward air to ship a machine, they required it to be crated... have any of you been asked that, or maybe it's standard now? Obviously safer but for a machine that was going to be restored anyways??? thought it was overkill and cost me more to have it crated?

I have never had that problem and with my moving around alot I have used several terminals. In the past year I have shipped out of daytona beach, Memphis, Cincinnati, and Minneapolis. I have never had a problem. I always blanket wrap, Most of the time I cardboard wrap them or I double blanket and then shrink wrap and then strap it to the pallet. I have never even had anything said to me about it.

Crating is safer and recommended. But it drives up the cost for an unrestored machine. Wrapping in cardboard would surely reveal what damage was pre-existent vs. damage in shipping.

I always use the crating method to avoid damages in shipping.
It's cheap insurance.
