The compressor unit is the same as the one in my Cav 64, but the fan unit is different.

Marsha,

Are you sure the whole unit is coming on? Judging from the hole in the compressor
electrical cap, there must have been something else going on. If the upper fan motor is turning but not running, do you have power to that lead? Looks like you did a great job pulling the unit out! You might want to replace the electrical wiring to start with and then go from there.
A new thermostat wouldn't hurt either.
