Hi Guys
Looks like we will be taking a direct hit from Rita. If I have some of your refrigeration systems, please be patient. We have to pack up and evacuate north for a couple of days. If everything remains standing, I do have generator back up as to keep business running. It looks like the storm will pass just west of Houston, heading north, (just 40 mi) for a direct path towards us. We'll keep our eyes pealed. I've got a feeling it's going to be bad. We'll let you know how things work out and will be in touch when possible.
See ya,
Eric

Lets pray the looting doesnt get out of hand there.
Hopefully lessons were learned from Katrina.
I have family in Houston Tx, too. Lets hope things arent going to be as bad as Katrina or the one that happened in Galveston in the 1900's.

WEEEEEE'RRRREEEE OUTTA HERE!!!! We made a decision to leave. It's just not worth it. Man, have you seen the size of that thing? It's HUGE!!!! Cat. 5 WOW!!! 1.5 million expected to evacuate. Remember, 4 million plus, in Houston alone. That's not including surrounding counties and towns.
Thanks for the prayers and thoughts. AJ, (aka lone star aggie), You watch yourself, there in College Station bud. If the Guard has you out in it, PLEEEEEEAAAASE be safe!
As far as looters go......shame on em'......if caught. We'll be back on or around Sunday. Figured on taking the travel trailer out of the picture. FEMA doesn't impress me enough to wait around for temporary housing. At least we'll have a roof over our heads if we lose the house.
Take care and we'll keep everyone posted!
Eric

Thanks for the well wishes Eric. We might be getting a lot of it up here in College Station too. Our highways sure are jammed up right now. Total madhouse on the roads... So far my national guard unit hasn't activated me but they did leave a message for me to call in after the storm passes to give them an update on my condition. Lets hope I don't get called out again as this semester will be a total loss for me. Not that I mind serving, it's just that I've worked my whole life to get into college and the capital required to drop and then start again later is hard to come by. Best wishes to all impacted.

Link to Houston on Rita if anyone is interested. Dont know how long it will be on air when Rita comes ashore.
Channel 2
Not sure where it will land, if it goes any farther east we may get some winds and tornados off of the hurricane.

Hey Guys,
I'm back!!!! Under the soft sounds of the generator, we are back. Lots of trees down. My neighbor had one hit the house but fortunately no major damage to our home or shop. No power, a few shingles, but we are survivors. We're sitting good with 2 generators and 65 gallons of fuel. It should last long enough for main power to come back on and the insurance company to give a call back. We had the west side of the storm hit and not the "dirty" east side like Beaumont or Lake Charles. Man, what a mess! Anyway, we'll stay in touch. Lots of clean up and not sure how long we'll be without power. Hopefully, we'll be back in business before the end of the week! Take care all.

Eric,
I'm very glad to hear things are better than expected! I know earlier in the week, Rita look like a "killer"; but fortunately for all those in it's path, the storm weakened significantly! I know exactly what you're going through... Stay safe, be careful with the fuel(you don't need any accidental burns or fires) and hope the electric is up within a couple of weeks...

Eric -
Great to hear from you! I hope you get the juice back on soon and that everybody close to you is good to go. By the way. I did send off my Cavalier 55D deck on September 16th and UPS said it would arrive in Conroe on Thursday.
I was out of town for the entire week and away from the internet and fully expected to check the UPS tracking site and see that my deck made it safe and sound to the Lonestar State. It was kinda a trip to see all the progress it made across the country only to arrive in Houston with the following remarks: "Arrival scan in Houston,TX. Delay in delivery due to natural disaster".
Yikes!! '> Hopefully it will show up soon. I wonder how long it will take for UPS to resume service....

I am a Customs and Border Protection Officer, Department of Homeland Security. That's the new fancy title for what used to be US Customs. I work at Miami Int'l Airport, currently DHL courier facility. Our team staffs six locations around the airport and handles the US Mail, DHL, UPS, FedEx, IBC, and any others that come through Miami. From experience, as soon as it can move, it will have moved. If they have to give the delivery person a boat or a donkey, it moves.
Glad the news here is good news. Be safe.

I'll be around. If the package comes, we'll get it. Brian, I hope you will forgive me if I'm running a bit behind. I'll do my best! They're saying maybe 5 or 6 days before we get turned back on. Of course, that will depend on all else that is going on. Good to hear from you AJ. Boy, that traffic WAS a mess! Good luck to you as well. Keep those grades up!

Glad to hear you're safe down there Eric. We had little to no damage at all here in College Station, just some gusty wind and about a half inch of rain. I heard from my national guard unit today and they believe they will be able to keep me in school and not activate me this time. Thanks all for the well wishes.

We were on the east side of the storm, yesterday late and into the night, we had tornados touching down all around us. Never lost power. Got 7 inches rain.
