Well, here's a new pledge to the Soda Barns frat' it's a 30's Westinghouse standard ice chest cooler , the tank is stamped TN 38 5, which I belive translates into May,1938. I first saw this cooler in a snapshot at a co-workers cubicle at the time at what was then called the Ameritech Yellow pages building, (Troy, MI)I remember talking to the then current owner about how my hobby of collecting & repairing soda machines was starting to take on a life of it's own, & complimented her on the nice condition it was in , she said that here family used it all the time for party's, and their family gatherings. etc. I left her my card with my cell no. on it. & away I went. that was five years ago. well no my friend is still employed my SBC, near Petosky, Michigan and  their daughter is moving out of there old house, & they didn't have the room for it up north, and now it's in my soda barn, so remember to always pass out your business cards, sooner or later it can payoff!  ':<img:'>

No cap catcher or crown puller, the lids appear to be original, but aren't embossed with "Drink Coca~Cola" as you'd normally find on a pre-war Westinghouse chest cooler, they're not repro's &she said they came with the machine ( they owned in for 15+ years up untill now) this is one of the few machines I've seen with the original over-flow style drain pipe in the tank, these are always removed & promply lost leaving an empty drain hole ( on this early model there is no drain petcock/faucet on the bottom of the drain pipe.) which would allow for a 3-4 inch deep puddle of ice-water in the tank to help chill the bottles, while providing that the crowns (top of the bottle) stayed dry. also note the under side with it's tar-pitch undercoating over the insulation, & the original rubberized cloth (thin-walled) drain hose, these always get brittle with age,  & crack off. it also has the optional casters...so here are some pictures.

Yep that means 1938 and the earlier ones I've seen were non-embossed lids..... I have a 1941 with the enclosed front
with ice cold wording along the bottom with the ribs. The Standard is one of my favorites. the lids on mine are
embossed as is my 1939 junior. These also have the deco looking handles. You can get a repro catcher and openers
are everywhere on eBay.
Nice cooler... great score.... and I work for SBC in St. Louis...... I knew I should have sent out a memo!'<img'>

Yeah looking at that again .... Just a little elbow grease and you won't have to
do anything to it.... looks really solid... Most lids are rusted out crackers.
Again .. great cooler!
