I broke down, bought a ticket for the lottery tonight, and if if i beat the 7 millio to 1 odds:
I'll get a caboose for my private hideout, on rails

find a victorian closer to me than Port Huron (about 1.5 hr drive to work)

Build  a 30's gas station facade in the game room to display the Bennett

Make the other half of the game room my soda shop

But in case I don't win, I still have my pop signs (repro and originals) , street lightrs, Gas pumps, phone booth, and  Sinclair road maps from the 40's.
Oh yeah, and my prized Captain Fantastic pinball table. Sure it's a different era from all my collection peices, but this is the same table I learned to play pinball after scgool, and a few times cutting school. The ice cream shop owner had it up for sale a few years later, and it had to many memories not to rescue it.
Sigh, $400 in 1978, a lot of money for a kid just out of high school making minimum wage.

I am not amazed or suprised so many of us share the same collections

I collect antique Victor record players. I have 3 upright and 1 tabletop with the brass horn. Antique beer stiens, 45 to date. Coke signs, 35 or so, in my shop. My wife collects photos of people from the 1800's. You know the ones you find in the antique malls. We feel sorry for them as being split up from estate sales, auctions, family deaths, etc. We find them, bring them home, hang them on the walls, and make up what ever family story we want. "this is Uncle Bob" or "Aunt Mary" or
what ever. Some people rescue "critters" we rescue....dead people?
Is that weird or what? '>

  Now that's funny, you could really have some fun making up stories about those pictures. My buddy had a huge framed picture of Kozmo Kramer from Sienfield hanging on his wall, he had mother in law convinced that it was his favorite rich uncle. '>

It's kind of different. We have about 20 or so in our bedroom. Everything from small children to distinguished ladies and gentleman. Apparently, in those days, photos were quite pricey so most of the pictures seem to be of wealthy folks. We think it's sad that such personal parts of a family's history get lost or split up over time for what ever reasons. Hey, if no one else wants them, we'll take em'. '>
