Parting out a cavalier 64

Josh, after you part out a machine, where do you take the shell to dispose of it? How much does that usually cost and any laws/restrictions about parts (like freon, etc.)? I ask because I have never done it, but may someday.

If youv'e got a local junk yard they will pay usually 5-6 dollars for an empty shell and many will take the compressor too if you want to get rid of it.

I bought a pretty trashed VF-90 ($35) from a guy about 15 minutes north of Bloomington, IN and ended up parting it out and taking the retrograde (carcass) to the scrapyard and made about $7. The particular yard I dealt with isn't to keen on compressors though.

They'd prefer that you either dispose of it somewhere else or you end up paying a $10 surcharge no matter if the compressor has "R-whatever" in it or if it's got a full charge.

I take them to a scrap metal salvage yard. I generally don't get any money for them but I am just happy to get rid of them.They havent seemed to care if there is a cooling system in it, but then again they just have me pull to the back of the lot and push it out. No one has ever even looked at it before.
