How do the slant shelve mechs work ? I don't as yet own one, but I'm curious as to how they work.. (ie. allow/stop a bottle from being pulled)

Chris - the mechanism is electro-mechanical.  The electrical part is that the coin mech activates a solenoid that puls a linkage arm and releases the "lock" on the mechanical mechanism.  The machine then stays in an unlocked state until a bottle or can is pulled.  When a bottle is pulled (from any of the slots) the gate for that slot moves forward and mechanically prevents, through a series of cams at the back of the vending shelf assembly, any other gates from being opened at the same time (while the lock is off). Then once the bottle is out and the slots gate snaps back into position it also resets the linkage arm and relocks the assembly.

Without actually having a machine to look at, I'm guessing that this is as clear as mud.  If you want I could scan and fax a couple pages from a VMC manual, but it may not help without seeing it all together.
