I agree, the wood grain has to go.  Should look really good when you are done.

Yep, that's the machine... you guys beat me to it. I was trying to figure out how to post the individual pics (didn't think to just post the link to ebay).

I am going to pick it up this Saturday... I'll know more about it once I can give it a look see and a good cleaning.

I wish the guy hadn't munged the lock area... hopefully the "wood" took the worst of it. BTW, is the fake wood likely to be original?

thanks...

Matt - looks like the door has been redone.  The bottle door looks teal and your woodgrain is lighter and has more grain than most I've seen.

PS - the price is quite reasonable.  Looks pretty complete with the exception of the lock and cap catcher.

I used some paint stripper to remove the woodgrain from my VMC 63 a few weeks a go.

Placed a thick layer on and waited for it to loosen the stuff and peeled it right off.

Mine was the heavy thick vinyl so it turned into a rubbery mess.

Be sure to wear gloves. and a good scraper comes in handy.

I just stripped one of those thick vinyl doors last week.  Lifted one corner, then just peeled it off.  Left the paint nice underneath
