Hello...
I just entered the world of soda machines by scoring a slightly beat up but working vmc-56 pepsi machine. I am a tinkerer by nature, but the only thing I know about these venerable old workhorse machines is:
a) They are cool!
b) When I was a kid, I used to try to pull out 2 bottles at the same time, and it never worked :^)
If you all knew how much I paid you would probably faint. There aren't many that I have seen for sale in NC, and when this one came along I had to have it.
Ok... I am sure to have many questions for you all in the future. Right now I would like to know a couple of things.
How do I set it up for free vending? It is possible to replace or remove the woodgrain panels (coin door and panel under the glass door) with solid blue ones?

Hello Matt,
Welcome to the group! Nice first machine. Yes you can remove the woodgrain and set to free play. Read through the "Post 60's Machines&Coolers" forum (same one you posted to). You will learn a bunch. Let us know of any questions, many here can help. Please post a picture or two so we can all see.

Welcome Matt - the vmc-56 was my first machine also... Agree with you on the cool. Bought mine in Dec and am hoping to finally get it painted this weekend. Search on my id and you'll see many newbie posts and some pics of the progress I've made. This is the place for tinker'ers (new word), almost every question gets answered. Pretty soon you'll find yourself with more than one machine and you'll be answering the next 'new guy/gals' questions.
You'll also see throughout, that pictures are worth a thousand words... so let's see your new money pit!

Matt - Ditto on the pull up a cold one and have a look-see at all of the wonderful info present here at SMC. It's great to have enthusiastic new members around. And like Markito said, we LOVE to see pictures!!!
One word of caution though!!!! Just make darn sure that when you take that picture, there is NOTHING, I repeat, NOTHING on top of the machine. Not so much as a latent fingerprint or the "Stuff-on-top-of-your Soda Pop Machine Police" will have a fit! (read: 'Kito)  '>

If that's it, you didn't pay enough to faint. You did just fine.
Hoepfully you can track down some trim to add and that ground-out lock will need fixing, but at least you're replacing the woodgrain anyway. Congrats!
