Insulation choice?

I've read the forums and I've seen people recommend both 3.5" and 6" fiberglass insulation for use between the shell and tub. I'm guessing that it's better to have the insulation loosely packed -> which would mean 3.5" thick insulation for my machine??
I've also read that you shouldn't use the insulation with any paper backing. Why?

Guessing the paper back could mold and mildew over time. Don't know.

You can peal off the paper back. Just make sure that it is slightly wider than you need as some insulation comes off with the paper backing.

That would have been nice but my home depot didn't have any at the time. I think the backed stuff was cheeper anyways.

I have the same problem as Josh. I could buy 3.5" R13 backed for about $13 a bag. The only unbacked bundle was something like 12" R40 at nearly $50.

Same here as well. Very easy to peel the paper off.

WoW! I can't believe I didn't get a single reaction out of you guys on this.
You know, all collecting and no fun makes you guys dull boys.
