Is it common for a Vendo H81D large door machine to have a (not sure of the proper name) a small no nickle tube - no change coin mech in it? Or did it get changed out from its original state at some point in its life? Dimes work but not nickles. How do I tell if its set for $.10 cents? Are large coin mechs with nickle tubes (ability to give change) available?
Thanks in advance for the help!

This configuration is fairly common; however, the mech appears to have the ability to accept both dimes and nickels.
Change-giving mechs can be purchased but can be expensive replacements.

Thank you - the mech accepts dimes vends fine but nickles fall right through. Any things I can look at, adjust, etc. so nickles can also be an option?

I would take the slug rejector out to see what's going on.  Once you have it out, you can watch to see why the nickels are being rejected.  If you look at both sides, you will see screws that hold pieces that direct the coin movement.  If these are off, the coin won't be accepted.  Some of the pieces look like little trapezoids, others have two U-shaped pieces riveted together and will rotate when a coin hits them.  Usually, it's just a matter of loosening the screws that hold these pieces, moving them a little, and re-tightening the screws.
