Pin identification on Ball style compressor for a 3 in 1 hookup?
«

I am trying to wire up a ball style compressor with a 3 in 1 starter..
I am not sure what pins are what on that style.
I found an older diagram from Johnnie G that shows the common on top, Start on Lower left and Run on lower right.
however the color of cables used in this diagram show reversed from what the 3 in 1 on show?
this was on a pancake style compressor.
I need info on the Large ball type compressor in a 81.
Right now I have it hooked up as show on Package of 3 in 1 , White to start, black to Common and Red to Run... but it trips circuit.
please help.

I assume you mean it trips the circuit breaker...with the power off, disconnect the 3-in-1 from the compressor & ohm each pin to the case of the compressor ( sandpaper a small spot on the case to get a good connection to metal) I think you will find it has a shorted winding to ground/chassis, in which case it's toast.

Yeah..220,221 whatever it takes.
Remember, all it needs is a shot of Freon!

Spray painting does NOT restore a compressor
11 is louder than 10...
"Hope" is good, but it's not an action plan.

Here's an old post where I explain how to find what the terminals are with a meter on a single phase compressor. I agree with Johnnie, it sounds like it is grounded and definitely would be toast.

Isolate the compressor & test it first, it's always a possibility that something else failed like the condenser fan motor or a short in the harness somewhere.

Is it the original compressor?
I believed he said it was original in a V81, probably a Blisfield hermetic, quote " a large ball compressor"
certainly a picture would help in any case.
Is be surprised if it wasnt shorted to ground from the symptoms
