Welcome JSTREIC! Don't know anything about the Cav's. To change a ballast first unplug machine then you will need to find it. May be behind the door liner. It should be a black box that has a couple of wires. They are heavy for the size and if bad may very well smell like hot roofing tar.

Jeff post is great info. You may be able to get a ballast that better matches the available bulbs otta my league in that area. Someone with more specific knowledge should get both of you enlightened. Sorry about that one as well :-)

Guys,
I put a themometer in my Cav 64C to get the temp right and my readings seem to be in extremes. I check it and it says 20 degrees or 30 degrees and I turn it a super tiny bit and then come back later and it says 50 dgrees, so I turn it a super tiny bit and it says 20 or 25 dgrees again.

Very strange. And I know the thermometer is fine because I took it out of one my other machine in my house that normally has this thermometer at a consistent temp.

I have the thermometer sitting on the top of the bottle rack in the machine. Is there a better more accurate location? Where should I put it?

Oh wonderful!!!  That's right!
Sorry, I needed the refresher course.
Very good. I appreciate it.
You are now officially off the most wanted list.  '<img'>

Whew I am so relieved!! Funny thing is that everyone I  know now wants a mahine and keep finding them.  If my wife would let me I would buy them and just resell them or work em over for my friends.  Seems like I am on a few people's most wanted list!  Justin

Strangest thing. By the time I went to bed late last night, I got the temp to hold steady at 37-38 degrees and it is still there this morning, so I am very relieved about that. I had been checking it every few hours because I was scared to death that it would drop way low again and I'd find 64 (+ precools) exploded all over the inside of my machine. But luckily it seems fine now.

But the greatest (and strangest) change is that ever since I put the new bulb in, as you know it didn't light up. Even when I checked the machine at 2am last night. But now 4 hours later I went down to the gameroom to check the interior temperature and I just about fell over when I saw that it's sign was lit up! Did any of you guys sneak into my house last night, play some pool and fix my lighted sign? '<img'>

Well I hope my luck lasts because right now everything is great.

Maybe the soda machine fairy stopped in.  Maybe he/she/it will stop by and fix the vending mechanisim on my Cav 96.

Glad it is all working on your machine now.

'Kito - Nope didn't sneak into your basement, at least not last night......I'm sure that the Soda Pop Machine elves weren't around either. I'd venture to say that you need to press the "I Believe Button" at this point. Don't question the magic.

Honestly, in the electronics world we see stuff like that all of the time during troubleshooting. It's probably the worst outcome possible other than death or injury of personnel. When the problem "fixes" itself or just magically dissappears, that almost always means that it will fail in the near future. A lot of times the vibration of the unit, be it a multi-million dollar peice of sonar gear or a super cool soda pop machine, can have a tremendous effect on performance. Also, contraction and expansion of electronic/electric components happens frequently.

All that said, I'm way stoked that your lights are on and somebody's home!!  ':drinkers:'

I also am not really versed in electrical parts on these but it sounds to me like that could have been the starter. Possibly so old that it just took a long time to fire up.
