Help with National 5 cent slug rejector

I have a 5 cent Nation slug rejector for a 1940 wall mount U Select It candy machine. After cleaning it works 60% of the time the rest it rejects nickels. Any suggestions ? Thanks

Do you have the slug rejector separated from the rest of the coin mech for testing purposes or are you testing while together and installed in the machine...?
I recommend isolating the slug rejector so we can ensure functionality before we move to checking the complete coin mech prior to testing while installed in the machine...

Thanks for your reply. So I can take part of this apart to test? I've tested it on and off the the machine however all in one piece.

With the slug rejector removed, test with nickels to ensure functionality is approx. 100%.  If you are unable to get better than your original 60% accuracy, then the slug rejector is part of this issue... I'm not sure if there are any adjustments that will help, but also make sure the actual coin path within the slug rejector is very smooth and clean. Also, observe the nickel asbest as you can while traveling through the rejector to see where the coin gets rejected.
This is an unusual slug rejector that I am not familiar with trouble-shooting, but we need to start here and work our way down the coin path to the vend cycle...

Like Jim said, clean the nickel path and make sure the anvil is free of dirt/rust. The path is pretty simple - tested for size, then magnetic properties and finally weight. The nickel has to hit the anvil at the proper speed to ensure that it will clear the separator. There are 1-2 adjustments probably if it is like other 1940's NRI rejectors I've seen.
