Well broke out the boxes and started working on the internal parts couple weeks ago, most of the parts were coated in a silver paint, when I removed the paint, the galvanized finish was in pretty good shape considering the age. I was going to re-paint all the parts originally, but now decided to just clear coat the original metal, love how the galvanized looks with the touch of wear on it. ill try to get a couple pics up of the progress so far, also trying to get a bunch loaded to a flickr album .... as always any suggestions or comments would always be helpful as I progress in this project

tricky part for me since I'm not an expert, is banging that lip by the cap catcher back to somewhat normal, looks like someone attempted to break into machine from there and side by lock and I'm thinking of using an epoxy as a filler (as little as possible), instead of a body filler, was thinking someone goes to use bottle opener... hits the lip and chips off... would love to just cut in a new lip if anyone knows where to get one.... let me know if anyone else has a better idea with that...Thanks

I would agree the galvanized looks much better then silver paint. I always thought the silver paint looks like a cheap restoration job. Keep up the good work!

Not sure what to do about the lip. Agree the galvanized looks better. Good luck and looking forward to the finished pics

May want to have a body guy take a look at the lip around that opening.. maybe get an estimate for just the bodywork for that area... such a nice model and machine you may want to put the money in that area and have that done right. There are guys out there that can make that look like there was nothing ever wrong there... would be worth it if you can swing it... at least find out what it would cost.
Looking good... best of luck with this restoration
