Lonny,

Congrats on the new toys!

I use Simple Green as a general cleaner. It is gentle, safe and biodegradable but works pretty well.  For getting rid of old grease, brake cleaner (available at auto parts places) is awesome - it just dissolves the old grease away.  I got a combo pack of Simple Green at my local Sams Club but most hardware stores will probably carry it if you don't have a local Sams/Costco/BJs handy.

Flitz will remove a lot of the grime from the paint.  It is a polishing compound so if you get too crazy with it you can start to remove paint, but it takes a lot to reach that point.  If you apply it by hand you shouldn't have any issues at all.  I used Flitz with my DA polisher on the 44 and I removed a bit of the red paint from the edges of the embossed area, but I really hit it hard all over and that was the only area in which I had any problems.

Can those chrome strips on the front of your Quikold be manufactured? It seems like most Quikolds are missing these chrome strips.

Jim - Thanks for the tips! i already have some simple green, i'll give it a shot first than try out the flitz...

Chedki - the chrome strips seem pretty simple, if someone wants to borrow one to use as a template let me know, I don't use them anyway, I like the look of the coolers restored without them...

Ed - what is the name of the dipping process you used on  your pepsi jr.  Eric had a good idea to go that route instead of the traditional sandblasting because of how rough this one is, don't want to make it any worse...

http://technostrip.com/

Here is the link to the place that I used now for several standards, and I just picked up my 7up 33 that I had dipped and is being painted as  I type this.

This place is about 3 minutes from where I work...... as an example...  2 weeks ago I brought them 4 complete Quikold standards (2 side panels, front and backs and the base for each X 4, no lids) along with a 7up embossed 33 (cabinet l, door, coin door, back compressor cover and crank plate).... so 4 quikolds and a 33 cost me 500 to get dipped.   The way I looked at it was it cost me basically 100 per cooler / machine.  The auto body rate where I go is 70 per hr.  I know they couldnt do it for less than 100 each item (1.5 hrs on each sanding, stripping etc...) , and the dipping turns the pcs into a BRAND NEW pc of steel.

I'll post some pics of them later tonight or tomorrow with my last batch.
