Dr. Pepper Buttons

Hello Everyone,

I want to share what I brought home today.  I ran across these some time back when I was photographing an old grocery store turned into a residence.  The front of the building still resembles the grocery store that include the two faded 3 ft. circles on the front where these two signs hung.  The owner took them off years ago and stored them in the house.  He showed them to me when I was photographing the building over a year ago.  These two signs were on my mind every time I traveled to this town.  I was there today and thought I'd stop and see if he still had the signs.  He did.  I asked if he would sell them, and he said yes.  We agreed on a price and brought them home.  They will hang in my garage.  The paint is pretty faded, but still look pretty cool.  I would appreciate if anyone has any information on age and anything else about them.

Very cool...Tempting to repaint... but great garage/man cave decor! I would think mid/late 50s from the Dr Pepper block script... Nice Score!

Thank you for your comment.  I carefully washed them and the white areas seemed to brighten up a bit. The buttons are in pretty good shape.  I guess it's because they hug so high on the front of that grocery store.

They would brighten up even more and stay that way with a couple light coats of linseed oil on them.
Some guys would probably frown on that,it all depends on your vision for them. Imo it shouldn't hurt the value of them if you do it right and lightly rub it in. They will be smelly for a while until it cures out.I'd be interested to hear what anybody else thinks of this treatment.I've done it with a couple of my trashed signs.

I appreciate your idea.  I also would like to hear if others have done this technique.  If I do this treatment, I'll have to do to both in order for them to match. 

I was thinking of giving them another gentle wash as I believe it would rid of even more surface rust.
