If you wait.. for the right buyer. I don't think it's a quick overnight flip..

Bill, Your thread is confusing. First, nice machine. I think as is you could get $2,000, little more if it cleans up. You said you bought it with your son and plan to keep and restore it. I wouldn't restore it, clean it real good and it would be a nice original, it already is.
You then ask if you could get $1,750 for it so now you want to sell to trade up? If so how much is the nicer original you are looking at? You also said the coin door was professionally sandblasted? Still looks to be original. What was done? If I'm not mistaken you are already restoring a 72? You want 2 restored 72's.

I think 81's are just as abundant if not more so. When I search I find a LOT of 81's and fewer Cav 72's.. the 81's are just higher priced and 72's are not as iconic. I can find 10 Vendo 81's listed at any given time, but they want "all the money" I agree it feels like the 81's are harder to find because they don't pop for dirt cheap money like the Cav 72's as often.

Agree with Tim. Plus on 81's there are also 3 different models or versions, the 72 has 1 model (2 if you count large or small letters 2 different models). Although I do like the 72, like the 81 more though, I've noticed in the past couple of years the 72 has been a tough sell for me. I think I have sold 6 in the past 24 months and they are not easy to sell, at least for me. I start a little high, lower it to a reasonable fair price, and then sometimes have to drop it even a little below that to move it. 81's you can just name your price and it's gone.
