For some reason, I cannot get my V-39 to accept nickels. It did for a while, then ceased to do so. Otherwise the mechanism works fine. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the board!
Clean and some more cleaning quite often does the trick. You can always search the board messages try "coin mech*" Posting a picture or two also helps narrow down the issues as well.

It's refreshing to hear a man talk about "cleaning". My Cavalier 51 wouldn't take dimes or nickles. I took the air hose to it and now it works with nickles. It may take some WD 40 to get the dimes to work.  '>

If a spray lubricant is used after a good cleaning, I would suggest using a silicone based product. The reason is because WD-40, a petrolium based product, is know to gum up over time whereas silicone based products do not.

WD-40 or any other lubricant will only accumulate dirt and soon make operation worse. The only exeptionis maybe a drop on the coin rocker cradles.
Remove slug rejector, set on a level surface and drop in a coin. Follow coin's path (nickles in front, dimes in rear) to see why the coin is being rejected. It's usually a dirty or rusted coin path.

Thanks for the heads up!! Any suggestions on a silicone based product? The hubby only stocks WD-40 and PB Blaster.

Hi Lulu,
be careful with lubricant. The Vendo Company does not recommend to lube the coin mech/slug rejector (restauration manual). A good cleaning with water and soap does the trick.

As for lubricant try using a powdered graphite, it works great.

The coins go through the mechanism just fine. With nickels, though, they just stop short of the slots, and won't go any further. Dimes go right in. I have tried cleaning with water, but they just seem to stop as if the angle needs to be a tad steeper.
