Yesterday morning I received a call about a coca cola machine for sale from a guy at the local airport. I take the drive thinking if he owns a plane a bargain buy is most likely out of the question. I was really hoping it was an employee of the airport instead and it would increase my chances of a bargain. As I'm pulling up to a brand new hanger I'm thinking here we go with the " I want $5000 for it". As it turns out it was the total opposite of what I thought. It did end up being the owner of the planes however he was a reasonable guy and he explained to me that he "no longer drinks sugar drinks" and was not using it any longer. He was selling a Cav 96B in overall decent shape with a newer coin mech. He explained that it didn't seem to cool and wasn't vending as he ran coins through it with no bottles in it. Hmmm.. I said so what are you looking to get for it and he responded two hundred. I thought to my self no need to see what works or negotiate. I said well if that's the case I will take it. So I loaded it up and peeled out of the parking lot. I haven't had a chance to clean or play with it yet but I'll get to it soon. So my lesson learned today is don't try to guess who will give you a deal, take the drive no matter who is selling it.

       Nice machine Seth.

But I wanted to alert you  that the compressor is not original to that machine.
The original will have a cylindrical evaporator in the cooling compartment.
The one that is in it is from a newer Cavalier 64 or 96. Notice they had to try and straighten the 90 degree bend in the copper tubing
to bring it down the left side rather than the right?  Also the evaporator is missing a cover, I have one if you can't find it locally.
The actual compressor and condenser and base are the same in both the early and late models..... but they mounted this one sideways.
The condenser should be facing the front of the machine.
I don't see a problem with it, but I know how strict you are on detail and originality.
If you are going to flip it for a nice profit, rest assured that most people could care less about originality on the inside.
But if you need to do a search for an original style compressor, some of the early squaretops still used the older style evaporators.

Thanks for the heads up Glen I was not aware of that. I kinda figured there was some stuff changed when I saw the coin mech was stamped 1978. I don't plan on keeping it for my collection but rather use for trade or sell at some point. Just not rare enough for me but maybe the 96 along with some cash will get me the Mills 45 I've been so patiently waiting for.  hopefull
