Another Newbie Question here gang, so thanks for your patients. I bought a COKE Vendo 81D recently and I'm in the middle of having it restored. Anyway, I learned today that the coin mech which is unrestored and works perfectly, but it does not give change. The production date on my Machine is May 1957. Is it possible to have a 81D with a mech that does not give change or was this mech most likely changed out at some point? Thanks guys for any info on this question. I really appreciate it!

Mojo.... give it some time as not everyone goes on the site every minute of the day. Of the 40 looks, maybe no one knows the answer. Pictures do help a lot with things like this..... There are lots of people on this site with knowledge to help you on this. I am not one of those lol. You cant look at how many views you got on this as there are MANY guests who look at everything. Plus, you just posted it last night.

YES !!!
It's possible that it never had a Change giver Mech .I have seen a couple with only large door mechs and I KNOW 1 was original to the machine
And Yes Most I do see have the Change giver Mech .
But YES it could have been replaced with a Large Door Non-Change giver Mech Since the Change giver mech is worth more

It's my understanding that not all Large Door Machines like the Vendo 81D, 110 or 56 came automatically with Change Givers.
If They where all suppose to come with Change Givers, then why where Non Change Givers even every created?
so I was told it was an option that came with machines if so needed, or desired for whatever reason.
I don't think any less of a Large Door machine because it is or is not a change giver... personally I could care less if I got change or not..
It's a matter of personal taste.
and if it is something you want to have in the machine, there is no RULE saying you can't swap it out for what you want... I'm sure most of the machines we see today have had several swap outs through the years due to malfunctions, or maintenance issues..
Same with Compressors...

Bonovox or Colecolaman, Please consider me clueless on this ...... as I really don't know the answer, but how are pictures going to add or perhaps aid in any way to my initial question on this thread? I don't quite understand. Sorry, I don't or didn't mean to come off as being impatient or to offend. My crickets comment was more of a realization that apparently my question was not common knowledge more so than anything else. Perhaps if I had more background in this field, that would have been fairly obvious to me. Anyway, I do very much appreciate the responses I have gotten. Thanks guys.

mojorob, As signguy stated, these machines have been serviced over the years, so parts get replaced or updated for various reasons. Whether a particular machine had a "changer-giver" or fixed price mech is impossible to verify because the machines were manufactured with interchangeable parts... I'm glad you have a correct functioning coin mech and good luck with the restoration!

I am with John. I think you could order your machine with any type of mech. What if a guy was buying an 81 machine and had a Vendo Coin Changer already to go along with his Tom's Peanut machine. He might opt for a strainght-sale mech instead of the change-giver because he had a VCC already giving out change on premisis. It doesn't take away from the machine IMO

Don't some 81 D coin bezels have a "use correct change" window, while others are just blank white?

I have 2 large door 81's in my house, as well as a Pepsi 81, whose coin mechanisms according to Collecture, (whom most if not all of us would agree) is the subject matter expert on coin mechanisms, told me that NONE were original to the machine (s), for a variety of reasons. All work fine, and the novelty of using a dime every time I wanted a beer wore off rather quickly. IMO as long as the handle turns, and it frees the bottle stack, I am happy. M

I have an 81 D with a change giver mech and a 56 with the exact same door and bezel as the 81. The 56 has a non-change giver mech. Moondog is correct, the only difference is the 56 has a solid while blankoff in the coin bezel window. The 81 has a clear section in the window where you can read the "Use correct Change" flag when there is no change in the tubes. Could swap them between either machine just by swaping a couple screws.
