Well I brought home a Cavalier C-55-D coke machine tonight. There is actually 6 - C55-D's listed for sale within a 2 hour drive from were I live ( I will post the other one's, in case someone close to ontario is on the hunt ).

This machine was purchased new in the early 60's for his gas station. I have the original purchase contract, warranty and also found the check copies for $5.55 / month he paid until it was payed for in full.

It has the shims, spacers, racks and he also gave me a spare vend motor.

Hoping to update the sign to a lighted one and maybe add the chrome when I overhaul it.

Congratulations! Are those shims the ones to adapt it for vending cans?

I don't think I've ever seen one of these in person, but from what I hear, you won't find a more compact square-top. In a hobby where
floor space rapidly becomes premium, that's a very good thing.

I wonder if this machine was inspired by the V44.

I can't say for sure, but I think the CSS-64 lighted signs in that style might fit. Might be worth checking into.

Thank You Pixel

Yes they are the shims. There is instructions on the door and racks inside the machine on how to set them up. I will post some better pictures of them tonight.

Funny you mentioned space, I said the same thing to my wife. Yes this is machine #2 of Huh?Huh?.

It looks like that may be the case with the C-55D, a square top version of the VMC44 and V44.

The paint is showing its age for being 54 years old. I think I may disassemble and prime and paint the body.

I was thinking of making my own sign, if I can't hunt up an original. Also would like to add the chrome trim, which I think I read on here was part of the optional kit with the light back in the day.

What size is the sign on these?  I can send over the dimensions of the CSS/USS marquee if you want.
