Just finished this up a full ground up build on a Cavalier 64. All internal parts were powder coated. Original Cooling system was restored. I usually sand blast everything myself but ended up having to farm it out this time. I did all the paint and body work here in my shop, Base Coat Clear Coat. All in all a ton of work but the end result turned out nice. The owner wanted the cabinet two toned like a 1950s machine after looking over a few of my machines here in the shop.

I took a few before pics but not finding them I will look for them again later tonight.

That came out really really nice.

Did you powder coat all the stack parts also? If you did how does the added thickness affect the workings?

Thanks guys appreciate it!

The body and fingers of the stack were powder coated. The moving mechanical parts that are not seen were sandblasted and painted. I've built 5-6 Cavalier stacks now as have not had a problem yet. They are fairly simple to work on.

Very sharp.  happydrinkers That marquis sign is one of my favorites. The touch of green text on the sign makes it really pop amongst the red and white paint and chrome trim.

I'm with Tim on that comment - I really like that touch of teal green on the sign.  I had that same sign on my CS-96.

When I sold it the guy that bought it said he was drawn to mine over others he looked at purely because of that sign...well that and the picture in my ad of the infra-red thermometer showing the internal temp, proving that it cooled.   Cool

Joey,
Question on the Chrome/SS Trim... does that come off easy enough to restore and then reapply or is it aftermarket stuff?

never worked on one of these yet and was always curious as to how to do the chrome?

Original trim on the outside was trashed. I replaced with 1 inch wide automotive trim that I found at my local paint store. Not original but turned out nice none the less. I do not think the original trim could have been saved if I sent it out to get reworked.

Excellent work. *thumbs up*

Did they originally charge more for the additonal text? Will this early marquee fit directly in the later CSS?

I have used the auto trim as well, works perfect and you'd be surprised at how finished it looks.  If you do a nice 45 mitre at the corners it's pretty much the only way to get it done.  I picked mine up from AutoZone, I think it was the 3/4".

I'm a little late to the party, but GREAT JOB! What brand of paint and colors did you end up using? I'm working on a long term project on the same machine and am looking for the right paint to get.

WOW, That came out Beautiful!  Great Job!

I just started working on the same model but I am stuck at the door, the bottom of mine is rotted out and it's a pain to find a replacement.
