Hi All,
Just about to restore a Stoner Gum Machine... the 1 cent style that hangs off a candy machine.
I was wondering what gum stick works best? I was told Bazooka works... but I saw the gum channels had a smaller and large size.
Do chicklets work? I would think they may be a bit light and Jam?
also, where the heck would I buy bazooka gum? LOL Not easy to find in Canada... I checked a few spots today while I was at the mall with my daughter. No Luck .
I would also be willing to buy old gum that fits if anyone has any...
THANKS!!!!! SHANE

Hello Shane
as you say there are a couple of differnt sized shutes. Bazooka definately works in the smaller ones. My kids will vouch for that, particuarly the tropical ones.
Larry was good enough to get hold of some other gum that fitted the the larger shutes. I'm sure he will chime in.
With regard to bazzoka, I have found eBay the best place. Its the smaller ones you want in the boxes rather than the larger sized gum that no longer has the comic strip wrapped around it.
Having just restored a new Bazooka machine I'm well versed in this topic...

I bought mine at Groovy Candies in a tub. I went to their site to put the Bazooka link in and I found a few boxes but no tubs. I went to Oldtime candy and found this.......
Please notice: We are sad to announce that Bazooka Bubble Gum as we knew it as kids has been discontinued by Topps. In an effort to appeal to today's children Topps has changed just about everything including taste, shape and packaging. Bazooka Joe comics are also gone. We are deeply disappointed and we will not carry the new style. It's just not the same.
Stoner, Mills, etc. had basically two sizes of gum to dispense when these machines were out. One size was for tab gum, which was rectangular but close to a square, similar to Bazooka, and the other type was the cellophane Chicklets style of gum. It's been awhile since I filled one of these machines so I don't remember exactly about the Chicklet boxes. I believe they work in the larger channel but I am not positive. Bazooka does work and so does Quench gum. Quench is a sour sports gum bought at Sports Authority. It is sold by packs.
The smaller channel that housed the old cellophane Chicklets has no replacements except for Canal gum from Mexico. On the web they sell minatures, and four piece cellophane gum. These will not work. At our local dollar store they use to have it in bags. They would cell two pieces wrapped in paper. The worked pretty good with an occasional jam. I have not seen them in about four years. I always check.

With a little filing on the backside the chicklets will work. "Now or later" taffy's work also.
