I got the winning bid on a pepsi machine yesterday on ebay, then 25 minutes after the auction ended she sent a cancellation notice due to selling it locally. I sent her 3 ebay messages and a decline on the cancellation but no answer back.  censored darn

So basically she didn't get the price she wanted and pulled out.  I can't stand that part of Ebay, the auction should be the binding contract.

Supposedly it is. But if you file a complaint,  what happens? Worst case the  seller is barred, until they use another ID.

It's not likely you'll see it, but you should complain to eBay.  At the very least, it will negatively affect her feedback.  As a bidder you are always warned that you are committing to buy something when you place a bid, I'm sure it is a two way street.

I would understand if something gets cancelled prior to auction end, but cancelling it after the end of the auction is just not right.

The auction starting price was .99 cents. I won it for 1225.00. There was a lot bidders. I almost got out bid by 4 cents. I was going to pay for it last after work using paypal, till I saw the cancellation. I still have not heard from her.

Does E bay offer the seller a cancellation option once the listing ends?

I found your auction and the sellers disclaimer :
There will be a 300 deposit (non Refundable) upon sell threw PayPal and cash or certified cashiers check on pickup guaranteed funds. This machine is also available for sale locally do reserve the right to end this auction at any time

There is an option to cancel the order, but the one time that I had done it (seller and I just decided to exchange money locally) both parties had to agree to the cancellation.  It wasn't easy, but you will still have the option to leave feedback.  I'd report to Ebay.

So my question would be - is tossing this phrase in worth anything?   "also available for sale locally do reserve the right to end this auction at any time"

I can say I'm the King of England in the description, doesn't make it legally binding.

I feel that way myself. eBay like to remind buyers it's a binding contract or agreement, not so sure about sellers. I doubt there's much effective recourse other than bad feedback or some sort of report to eBay. If you didn't actually send any money, I don't know what could be done. I thought eBay use to have a "Non-selling Sellers" report option, but since they started forcing their PayPal monopoly on everyone I've dealt very little on eBay and am not up-to-date.

It looks like a scam to me. It may be better that she cancelled it. Here's what I see:

1. Her feedback is only 10 and ther are over a year ago
2. She only had 1 pic do the machine and all of the others are from a brochure. She probably took the pic at an antique store and thought she could get big $$ from someone.

With the amount of scams out there today I would just forget about it and be glad that you aren't out $1225.00 or more.

Just my opinion

There are a bunch of pic's you missed.  I think the seller still has it, mad because it didn't go as high as expected.

I have a feeling that she was using ebay to see what price value to sell it locally for.

Yep sorry. I still think that you shukd just be thankful.mif she was willing to canx the auction after it was completed, there might have been more behind it. We have all had those we wish we would have won or did and didn't get the product and were out $$$. Be glad you weren't.

Like owning 4 coin op gullwings isn't enough. Save some for the rest of us Steve.  biggrin Kidding aside. I saw that auction and figured you would be bidding. That is ridiculous that she would wait till auction closed to cancel. I think someone was pissed they missed it by a couple dollars and sent a message offering more then your bid. There are some sellers that would go for that. I would be happy to send a message and inquire about the machine. I know you have sent some messages but I would try to contact her again telling her of your intentions of leaving negative feedback. See if you get a response. If no response post negative feedback. Just my thoughts.

This is what her ebay cancellation reads, This case has been opened by the seller with the following reason: I sold item to another buyer. Additional information provided by seller: This item was sold to buyer locally and we were unable to cancel this item because within a 12 limit. I sent her 3 ebay messages monday evening. No answer back. It is a fishy why of canceling an auction. I have never run into this issue how been an ebayer since about 1998. Tuesday morning I clicked a decline on cancellation. Would I get black flagged for non payment plus negative feedback? Who cancels an auction 25minutes and 48 sec after it ends.

Maybe she had a legitimate reason for cancelling the auction? Grandpa didn't want them to sell his cooler and he's been missing for days.

Well picture # 6 shows where they found him......... and now they can't figure how to get him out  biggrin

Good for you. What she did was wrong and she knows it. That's why she's not calling you back. If there was a legitimate reason she would have called or messaged you with a sympathetic explanation. Instead she ignored you. That to me is what feedback is for so why not warn others. I don't really care if she had it listed for sale localy and put that in the description. She should of cancelled well in advance of auction closing since she new it was sold. Instead she waited till it closed to see if the auction would bring more money then her local offer.  Obviously it didn't or the other person would have been in your shoes being told it was sold on eBay.

This is what happens when people list an item for sale on both craigslist and eBay.

I don't particularly like the notion of "subject to prior sale" in an eBay auction, but if the electronic gavel falls, the item should go to the winner. She apparently had no reserve. There isn't much can be done in a situation like this. Pick yourself and onward to the next one.

That doesn't mean however, that people shouldn't know what she pulled.

On the bright side, if a seller is this unscrupulous, what might she have done if you'd went far enough to send a deposit or full payment? Sure you'd probably have recourse if you used PayPal, but it would at least be a major potential headache.

If you declined the cancellation notice,  she will have to pay all ebay final value fee's.  So look at it on the bright side you made ebay money.

You mean all of those calls from ebay with suggestions for boosting my sales are just so they can make more money.  I AM MORTIFIED!!!!!  I thought they were just trying to help me make some extra money,  I guess the next thing you are going to tell me is Obama and Congress are not really going to give us affordable health care.
