Have a couple questions about the standalone Vendo coin changers (the model where you drop in a quarter and it gives out 5 nickels)...
1. What did these changers attach to--side of machine, wall, stand, etc.? 2. Is there such thing as an "original" base and pole (stand)? When I search for information, I see that some people have the changer on a "coca cola" base. Others, it's on a plain round base. I'm trying to understand what does an original coin changer stand look like.

The only machine I have seen the VCC mounted onto was a V-83. Doesn't mean anyone could have mounted a VCC to any machine provided there's enough room... And yes, they were mounted on walls as well.
As for the correct base/pole, to best of my knowledge, the original base is a plain round (approx. 16"-18" dia.) with two holes for securing to the ground. The pole appears to be a 1-1/4" rigid pipe and both are supposed to be black.
There are several members with an "original" setup that may chime in and perhaps post a photo...

Carl Coates (eBay user 'sleepwalk') had a VCC on an original stand listed a few days ago. He wanted $1200 for it, which is not way out of line IMO. Even if it sold, you should be able to view the completed listing of it. I have a picture of one uploaded into the Photo Gallery here on SMC as well.

A friend of mine found it at a swap meet. He only paid $25.00 for it. Passed it along to me.

I've seen pictures of these machines on bases. What was stopping someone just walking up and grabbing the pole and walking off with the machine and all the money in it.. Did they cement the bases down?

There is a jam nut under the base to keep someone from unscrewing the pole. There are two holes in the base to bolt it down to the ground.
