Is it chrome or pot metal? I think if it were Lincoln it should be  stamped  FMCO inside. All my ford emblems have that inside.

What does the bottom and back look like? Does it have a place for the hood ornament cable?

I found this site:

The back is not finished chrome, has a number 4 stamped on it.  The bottom has a hole for a screw to bolt it to the hood.  Thanks for your efforts.

Think what you have is a generic after market hood emblem. Sold from JC Whitney, Sears etc..
Very cool example!! If it came from any major car builder would have ID marks in the casting. FoMoCo, RR, GM, Delco, AMC... As stated before.
Matters not. It is a great item.
Congrats on the find!!

Pretty cool but I can't put an ID on it.  My favorite hood ornament is the greyhound that was used on the Lincoln in the early 30's.  It was actually designed by the silversmiths at Gorham.  Would love to get my hand on one someday.

Thanks guys, I tend to agree, it would have markings if it came from one of the big guys.
