just posting a pic of a customers V81 deck I'm working on, the evaporator was a mess with the old Aluminum paint trick from the Coke bottler, which was peeling off & blistering, so I flushed the lines, stripped it, dried it & applied a nice coat of etching primer to bite into the metal & hit it with a textured metallic Aluminum which looks very nice, the base-plate is powder coated semi-gloss & the condenser coils & fins were flushed, stripped and then dipped in my tub of phosphoric metal prep, & given a coating of semigloss black as well, the new compressor is an R12 1/4 Tecumseh unit with a high torque cap start & built in low side service valve and of course a new filter dryer with a high side port, now to wire it up ( new condenser & evaporator motors, T-stat, etc.) & leak check then charge it up and if she purrs...

Spoon-feeding Newbies since 2001... Yeah..220,221 whatever it takes. Remember, all it needs is a shot of Freon! The Vendo V-83 is the '59 Edsel of the coke machine world. ;p Spray painting does NOT restore a compressor 11 is louder than 10... "Hope" is good, but it's not an action plan.

Looks great Johnie, when recharging are you using R-12 or a replacement refrigerant? On newer equipment I flush the coils and lines and use a 134a compressor and charge with 134a and the units run great. Not sure if the older units would hold up with an oil change, flush and refrigerant change to 134a. I have used 414b with no problems. Just curious about what works best with the older systems.

Bob, Nope not yours (yet ) I use R414B if it's a new compressor ( the old OEM units generally don't handle the higher head pressure & being low-torque capillary systems they tend to stall when they short cycle or they bust a rod or damage the already worn out valves) but this one is getting R12 again at the customers request, otherwise I'd use freeze12 or R4114B.. PS freeze12 works well in older compressors just charge @ 90% of the original weight.

I still have those neon low rider sticks in Lime green we bought at Pep Boys that time oh so long ago. You can put in the bottle door, it really makes the door medallion pop
