OK, let me get up on my soap box for a moment. So have I ever mentioned that I absolutely hate buying from eBay! I have been working against the clock to get this Westinghouse Master restored for an upcoming Birthday & by some stroke of luck I find a nice set of original Westinghouse master cooler doors on eBay. I rarely ever use eBay but got to have them for my topless cooler, so 2 sec remaining in the auction and someone raised the bid by 200.00 with no time to react!! Well played Sir Well played. .... OK I feel much better now.....Thank you for your time....That is all..

Well you shouldn't hate e-bay for that, it's actually the way it should work but never does anymore. People forget e-bay started as a auction website, I really don't even see auctions anymore, it's all "Buy It Now", that's the way e-bay wants it to go. If you actually run an auction with a reserve price they will kill you on fees.

Snipes are everywhere...I'm one! You have got to know your limits and bid the most your willing to go. Sometimes you get it cheap, other times you pay your max and sometimes somebody wants it more than you! What was the Clint Eastwood "Dirty Harry" quote: "A man has got to know his limitations!"
One another related note: I did hear that eBay will start charging a fee when a seller ends an auction early! I am happy about that one because I hate it when I see an item I need or want and then, suddenly, it is lost or damaged! I hope they make it a sufficient penalty so as to deter sellers from doing it.

so 2 sec remaining in the auction and someone raised the bid by 200.00 with no time to react!! Raised the bid by $200.00? Then you didn't need them If they raised the bid to $200.00, reproductions must be priced close to that.

Don't ever put a bid in until the last second. If you drop in your top price you will pay, then the seller will be able to bid $4359843758, see what your top bid is, retract it and then bid just below your top bid to maximize his profit. Or, just bump it up a little at a time if they are too lazy to retract or cancel the bids
As a seller, its not an auction because auctions are not timed to place your bid, when the last bid comes in, and nobody else wants to bid in a reasonable time frame, the item sells. timing is part of what ebay is and that is not an auction.
There is even software for last second bidding, last second it is the only safe way to bid.

Auctionstealer.com
I'm not affiliated with it in any way. i use it to set it and forget it. The free version lets you bid 3 items per week, it will start posting at the 10 second mark.
If you want to pay, you get unlimited use, and can set how soon to bid.
And Yes, Ebay will start charging sellers who end an auction early - if there are bids. They will give one pass a calender year, after that the account is charged the highest bid
