Just picked up this stoner jr. It has canteen written under the mirror so I'm assumming its all original. Also has a canteen card in the small window. Was wondering what its worth? Also since its all original would it be worth painting or should I keep original?

It looks from your first picture it has the base but from the 2 open pictures looks like it's on a wood base?

The Stoner Jr. has to be the most undervalued 50's coin op out there. Awesome machine that you could still pick up fairly cheap when found. Unfortunately there is no such thing as a nice original because even if it is they are usually still ugly only because of the colors they were made. I do like yours, very, very nice. I don't think it would be a sin if you paint/restore it. Value? Maybe $650-$750.

I'm not sure why the mirror has a different manufacturer...
As far as price goes, in the last few months, my uncle and I have bought 5 juniors/120s for about $275 - $400 depending on condition...
I'll be finishing up my Junior later next month...
Yours looks like a decent original, Congrats on the new acquisition ! ! !

Ive bought and sold 2 Jrs in the last 3 months, I sold both of them for $500 each thats a fair price to the buyer and the seller. I maybe could have gotten more but would probably be still sitting on them.

canteen is a distribution company it is still in business today I believe they hired stoner to build machine for them. supposedly they destroyed most of the machines so that no 1 else could use them if so I would think this 1 would be more valuable.

It is not embossed Canteen - I wouldn't value it much higher than a nice condition Stoner.
Have you taken the mirror off? Any indication that the mirror is as old as the machine?

Were stoner machines embossed with canteen this early? I see no evidence that the mirror is not original to the machine. I have not removed it out of fear that it will become damaged. The writting is not a sticker on the outside of the mirror but inside.

That is a nice Stoner Junior but I have never seen one with a Canteen mirror on it.  Curtis is probably the guy who can solve the mystery of a Stoner with a Canteen mirror.

The Canteen vending machines where styled differently than the Stoners.  See this thread:

http://soda-machines.com/discussions/index.php/topic,13234.0.html

Still a nice machine and I agree that in that condition, $500 would be an average price although I have seen them go higher.  Restored properly it can go for a lot more!

Ltransam by embossed do you mean that it is stamped into the metal of the machine? That's pretty cool if so.

Mznb1u thanks! Im thinking I'm going to take it apart this weekend and start restoring it. It doesn't look to hard to take apart and should be gun. I'm really curious about the mirror now.

If you decide to take it apart, take pictures, lots and lots of pictures. Months from now, or weeks , you will have something to check how it all comes back together

yes thank you I definitely plan on that.  from what it looks like there's only 2 bolts on the top and two bolts on the bottom and the whole inside  comes out 1 piece?

That step is not what the pics are for!

Digital cameras are a great tool in dismantling things! Take lots of pics (and make sure things are in focus)! Nothing like wanting to clarify a detail and you can't tell from your pic because it is blurry! ARRRgh!

Thanks for the advice collecture. Does anyone know if the whole inside comes out after removal of those bolts?  Ltransam that looks really cool. What year is your machine? Maybe the earlier ones were not embossed?? Thanks

I believe that will do it.  Make sure you have some help because those vending racks are a lot heavier than they look and you don't want to drop it. darn

And as stated pictures are important and another good tip is to store the hardware in labeled baggies so you don't mix up all of the nuts and bolts.  Like Kilroy said--if you get it apart and don't get back to it for a while, you will be happy you have plenty of pictures and all of the hardware labeled and separated.  Rayg just did a Stoner 180 not too long ago so he should be able to give you some pointers.  Curtis at Memory Lane is always willing to give advice as well.

Good luck and make sure you post pictures of your progress on the site.

This is really weird then. My machine was in storage for 35 years and It didn't seem like anyone had altered it but who knows.

You guys are so lucky in finding these Stoner machines. Ive been trying to find a good deal on one here in Texas, so I dont have to have it shipped, and Im not having much luck. With some of you having luck at getting them at $300-$500 ive been looking everywhere. Hopefully I can be as lucky.

300-500?.. haven't found too many jrs for that... I sold one in chicago this year for $550.00 so I think the values are still pretty steady if they are complete and nice.
