generic roundtop fantasy machine questions

hello everyone,

now then, i am particularly interested in fantasy machines.


i have done a few fantasy versions on 60's slot machines

for myself and for a few clients and am surprised how they

can transform [ill try to be careful here...] a less rare & less

collectable & less valuable machine into a rare & high priced

machine, [albeit to small % of people, possibly maybe one!].


have seen numerous threads on VMC 81 generic machines eg

the fantasy Orange Crush & of course those purporting to be

an original RC VMC 81.

A while back I believe I also saw thread on someone banging out

Squirt and Orange Crush versions of Vendo 39's too......i think....



Its taken sometime but i will get to my questions now


With reference to roundtops in particular has anyone any experience

and or pictures of anyone taking a Vendo 81a [or B for that matter]

and turning either of these into a fantasy machine? eg a small door

Vendo 81 shell, as opposed to the VMC 81 generic which i think are

all large door.


in addition has anyone examples of a vendo 56 RT which has been

ground down or had replacement embossing................ouch!.......


and finally were all the cavalier 72 and 96 models all Coke embossed,

were there any generic versions and if not has anyone ground these

out to make a fantasy cavalier RT..............................................


pix would be great and if my knowledge is incorrect just put me right!

No generic 72 &96's,  and the most often offender as far as altering Coke machines is the Pepsi bottlers, which often made Vendo 39's, VMC 27A's and other Coke machines into Pepsi by smashing in the coke embossing and putting bondo in the space and smoothing the surface out.  I once had a V39 Seven-up that was so expertly done I had to take the inside door liner out to check it.

I have seen a 7up and Squirt Vendo 39 created in the past, they looked pretty nice... and I don't feel too bad about someone converting a very common machine to something off brand as long as it's portrayed as fantasy...

I personally have a Generic VMC 81 and I also have the proper Orange Crush Embossing to make a fantasy OC 81.. but I can not bring myself to cut up the generic and add embossing, so I am going to keep it like it is and make a Dr. Pepper VMC 81 out of it..

and what I'm thinking of doing is taking a Coke Vendo 81D and using that as my doner for my Fantasy Orange Crush 81... I figured it's a fantasy machine anyway.. I'm not trying to pass it off as anything but.  Coke 81d's are easy enough to find and sure it may not have the VMC dimple on the bottom and I'll have to remove the VENDO logo, but outside of that, it's about the same and it's a fantasy machine for my personal collection, so it should be just fine...

plus I won't be sacrificing one of the more rare Generics...

i fully understand not "sacrificing" a generic to make an OC 81

and utilising that to male a Dr Pepper with the porcelain signs.


just wondered whether or what your reason is to utilise an 81D

to weld in the OC embossing to make your OC fantasy machine,

rather than an 81a or 81b?


is there a technical reason, or is just that you would prefer the

large door v small door look for orange crush fantasy machine..?


also thx sodaman for confirming that are no generic cavalier 72's

due to their lower cost? [versus V81'S] as a donor machine I am

surprised that these havnt had the fantasy make over, moreso

than maybe a squirt/OC vendo 39 due to their multichoice vend

option.......

would love to see even a photoshopped cavalier or vendo small

door 81 or vendo 56 options in non coke variants....................

The real crime is that people make generic VMC 81's into Orange Crush and other brands and sell them as original machines.

Yes I guess its a matter of Matching I guess.. all of the other brands, 7up,Pepsi,RC,Dr Pepper where Large door, so it just seems natural to use another LD machine to do the fantasy one..
i Have thought about using an 81a as well, but just thought it would look better as a D.

we'll see I havent' done anything yet and probably won't get to it for some time as I still have 10 Customer ordered machines to get done by SUmmer 2012..
