Evaporator Fan Motor

I have a fan motor to replace the defective condensor motor with, but it is a 4W motor as compared to the 6W motor that is the original motor.  Will this have any effect on the system by going from a 6W to a 4W motor??

if it's an aluminum blade...no problem.

Yes, is an aluminum blade.  The only other difference I notice is the distance to coils is greater with 4W than with original 6W.  Will this have much effect on it?  Speaking of, is there anyone out there that might have a shroud for a VMC-149?  I just realized this one is missing.  Thanks.

It should be fine, the shroud should be the same as for a V-90 deck. Funtronics or Soda-jerks should have one listed in their catalogs...


FYI...the higher the "watts" of a unit bearing type evaporator or condenser motor, the higher it's torque, IE: it can spin a heavier load,( steel blades vs aluminum)  or a large diameter fan blade, if you under-size the motors wattage, it wont be able to spin the blades up to the nominal 1550 RPM & it will overhead & burn out quickly.

I made that mistake myself once trying to save a couple of bucks way back when..

Cool.  Thanks for the information.  I'll be sure to get a shroud for it then before I reassemble.  Once assembled, it's pretty hard to get to.
