Found this double dot cooler on CL for $350 and thought it was a pretty cool piece. Matter of fact, they just restored one exactly like this one on American Restorations earlier in the month. I believe it still works and only has a tiny bit of surface rust.

Nice GE wet chest! looks pretty complete too, did you score the front grill also? For those of you who don't know about this model, it's probably on of the most heavily embossed coolers ever made, everything that you see in the way of a logo, or lettering is embossed! top, front/back sides, top of the lids & inside on the underside of the lids too! they usually had semi-hermetic belt-driven compressors, a galvanized tank liner. (the liner on these were prone to pin-hole leaks, I restored on once for a customer & had to replace it, so we had a stainless steel replacement fabricated for the cooler, it turned out Nice!
Again, congrats's on the find! also...it it a keeper or a flipper?

Spoon-feeding Newbies since 2001... Yeah..220,221 whatever it takes. Remember, all it needs is a shot of Freon! The Vendo V-83 is the '59 Edsel of the coke machine world. ;p Spray painting does NOT restore a compressor 11 is louder than 10... "Hope" is good, but it's not an action plan.

It's a keeper for sure. I'm converting it to a dry refrigerated cooler. I plan on making a stainless tub for it because the owner said it did have a few small pin holes in it. The bottom panel he doesn't have but shouldn't be too difficult to make. Other than that, he says the panels are super straight so shouldn't take too much block sanding to smooth out.

Ok, so *Rick took a cooling system from a Vendo and plumbed it into the cooler; didn't look too bad when it was done, but it did take up a little footprint inside the case when it was done. Is that the way to do it?

Well it's easier to use an existing evaporator assemble to start with, rather than fabricate something up from scratch, & yes the evap assy. will take up about 1 square foot of space when all is said & done, and you'd probably would need to install an air-defector so the airflow would be redirected horizontally as opposed to the vertical path in an upright machine it came out of.

yeah, I didn't like the setup rick did on his cooler. Mine will have a setup similar to the westinghouse coolers which were located directly in the middle where the lids are hinged. That way, you won't see much of the unit and will maximize the most usable space. Ricks was off to the side and seemed to be in the way.

Great find. I restored the "double version" of the same cooler. It is a "chiller" and that was not practical so I use it for starage. I did not want 200 gallons of water sitting in my basement. They do look great but if you don't know someone that is very good at sign painting, it can be very difficult. If done right, the embossing looks great.
