A friend of mine asked me if I saw the American Restoration episode with the Stoner coffee machine, because he new I had one, and I told him I didn't. So I found it on the web and watched it. The machine came out butt ugly, but that's not what I laughed at the most.
In the episode his kid found a Stoner coffee machine behind his school. It was missing the insides so they decided to look at the local flea market and see if they could find any parts for it. Boy they must crap out lucky horse shoes because they just happened to find a box, from a vendor, with all the missing parts. WoW!! How lucky was that.
What a joke. It was almost as bad as when they turned a Vendo 39 into a Cavalier 72.

That had to be staged.... just like them going out and finding that visible gas pump and fire extinguisher for $20 (or what ever LOW price it was) in that desert dump...
I still don't think they show enough of the restoration process... the time it takes to letter or do graphics... They show it in as found condition, then you see them start to sandblast, then the next thing you know new signs and graphics magically appear and its' done. He then tells them they went over quote, laughs, one of his guys does/says something stupid and staged then it's on to the next project... Only reason I watch it is to see what is in the background He does have some nice stuff in the shop.... But I dont' think his restorations are that great... several on this site do a much better job.

I agree. They worry too much on filler, no matter how staged or fake, and not enough on the actual restoration. I guess without a storyline, the show would only be interesting.
I also agree that ten grand for that tacky restoration was definately a scam.

It's all staged, I just sold 2 VMC 27's to the show producers to use for an upcoming show..
It was funny, the guy contacted me, asked a few questions, and we struck a deal, I asked where to ship them and he said Las Vegas, I jokingly asked "are they going to Ricks Restoration" and he said, "well actually yes, do you watch the show".
he and I then struck up a conversation, and I asked about the show, content, etc.. and he basically said, yes they are in the need of machines to restore for upcoming shows as they are not getting many takers on people sending their stuff to Rick.
so when you see a show with two VMC 27's miraculously turning into one, or better yet, maybe he'll turn one into a Vendo Decapper? who knows... but the VMC 27's are mine! (I'm almost Famous)

What kind of deal did you strike? If I remember correctly they wanted you to pay for the shipping, airfare, over priced restoration, shipping, and airfare again. Such a deal (use a jewish accent).

It's all staged. There is no reality at all. He upset me over an eBay deal. Bought an item from me, never responded. Within 2 minutes he also won a Vendo 81. He never contacted that guy either. I sent many emails and invoices. I had to claim non paying bidder. His email address is restore4tv@gmail.comLeft me with bad attitude towards this guy. I proceeded to block him as a bidder. ebay ID kandr13

I had a semi bad experience with them. He bought a Victor 3 door and took forever to respond but finally did and then was a jerk. When called out on the time it took to respond he answered "Do you know who you are talking to" Ha Ha HA yep I know. But other than that I have to say the rest of the transaction went fine and after contacting he had a company come get it door to door and they took care of everything and were nice guys. The guys picking it up got a kick out of who it was going to when I told them though! At first they thought I was lieing and then they saw the destination as Las Vegas and thought it was cool.

Ever since he turned the V-39 into a Cav-72, I have been unable to watch the show without being critical of just about eveything that they do and say. To make matters worse, a lot of people know I collect and they ask me about his show all the time. I politely inform them that the guy does not always do that great of a job (I happen to agree with Eric that I have seen far better work from many of the SMC members) and he over-inflates the value of just about everything that he shows. But do I like Storage Wars? - - - - Yeaaaaaap! Of course a lot of that seems staged as well. But it is fun to watch the key characters run each other up on the bids and they at least take stuff to appraisers so you can learn a little more about the different items that are uncovered in the storage lockers. yea, if you actually believe that they find that stuff in the storage lockers. Everyone would be doing it if it was that easy. That show is more staged than any i've ever seen.

they do luck out sometimes and find good stuff. I went to look at a chicago cubs pinball that was listed on craigslist. the guy bought the locker for 500.00 had the pinball and some vintage furniture in it. he was asking 1500.00 for the pinball, so in that case it was a pretty good score for him.

My wife is semi-interested in my hobby to the point of "Where is that machine going" or "Do we have room for that one" So to say that her knowledege is limited is absolutely correct. She was sitting on the couch watching the very same episode with the Coffee Machine and she even hoisted up the bullcrap flag! Maybe me sitting there with my eyeballs rolling around was a slight tip off........

What got me was the guy that supposedly bought the coffee machine didn't even try to talk him down off the $10,000 price. That's a lot of money for a fantasy piece that has nothing authentic about it.

He's a joke, yes, but hey, he's making money, so who's laughing? I have no respect for people who value the $$ and TV fame over integrity.

the guy who bought them, was from the production company that creates the show, different bidder or user name than what you stated.. I was pleased with him, real nice guy, Super fast payment with cashiers check. I have a background in Radio and TV , and understand they have to make the show "A SHOW" something that would appeal to the mass audience.. Believe me i think it's corny too. but in all reality who would really want to sell all the detail on the restoration, outside of guys /gals like us.. They need to apeal to hundreds of thousands of people in order to ge the TV contracts, not just a couple hundred Soda machine collectors /restorers.
so on one hand, I understand why they have to "Produce" a show, but agree, wish there could be more content.. oh well..

Just saw a 27 on craigslist painted like a 7UP machine. The guy says it's rare so it's $1500 and it's a Vendo 27. It's super rare if it's a Vendo
