Finally finished the VMC 81 Dr Pepper machine. Did this one for a customer who is putting together a collection of 81's. I'm trying to talk him into putting the hand and bottle Dr Pepper decal on the sides. I think it looks a little plain like this, but he likes things original.

Looks fantastic.  I vote for the simpler look as well.  The lines of a redone machine just look classic to me.  I think too many decals detract from the beauty.  To each his own though.  I'm pretty sure your customer will be thrilled either way.

The sign on front is original and the ones on the sides are ones that I made up.

Rod it  looks Sweet!  you did a great job, but a question, on the before pic  the Dr pepper sign  is round (what does the 10, 2 and 4 mean?)  and on the after you converted to a different one that's rectangle  (looks better).  Which is original to the machine  the before or after?

Ray

PS I like your  F14 and  Road show pinball  machines.

GREAT JOB ROD!!!!
Just a question though.... maybe u have more knowledge than me as I bought my VMC 81 Pepper already restored.
I notice that you have a "Dr Pepper" sign at the front (as do I) although mine is a bid larger than what you put on.
My question is, have you any idea what the actual "original" size is of the sign in front... or were ALL the original signs on the Pepper machines like that on your "before" pic, the round 10 4 2 sign.
Just a question, as I too like things as they were.
GREAT looking job!

10-2-4 was when they wanted you to drink a Dr Pepper everyday. I guess they thought you should skip lunch. No decals is my vote.

they claimed that those were the times when your body naturally gets tired. so they suggested you drink dr pepper to perk you up.  in many companies that is when they have there designated employee breaks also

I'm sure Rod will chime in, but I believe the way he restored it was back to the original way they came from factory, Rectangular sign on front and round on sides..
Looks great!

I know in my before picture that the big round decal was not original. I have seen this machine with both the larger sign on front like yours and also with the smaller one on it like mine, so I'm not sure which way it should be. I do know that the side buttons should be 9".
