Just got my 81 back together after restoration. The bigger line from evap to compressor is frosting over. What could be the causes? Machine is seemingly cooling fine. 38 degrees on 2.5 setting. Cycling on and off. I did just fill it up with drinks so It had to run awhile to cool them off. It's not the original lower unit. It appeared to have be put in long ago. Has service port in this line. New motors . Airflow seems good. When it cycles off it melts and drips in floor. Any Ideas?   |

My guess would be main door not sealing well.

I would say it's got a little too much freon in the system.

Hi, Creighton, Glad you could use the coin mech. The main door gasket is new and has a very good seal.
Moondawg, I will try to get a presure reading. Do you or anyone know what the pressure should be?
Is there such a thing as having to much airflow on the condensor? It has a four blade fan with alot of pitch. Seems to move alot of air.

The frost is on the outside tubing, which is outside of the main door seal area, it's overcharged...if it's R12 system, it should have low-side suction pressure of between 15-20 PSI depending on the temperature of the box. The condenser fan wouldn't have any bearing on the frosting, did you have the system worked on/recharged lately? |

Hi JohnieG, Someone has put in a new lower deck at some point. It hadn't been ran or messed with in the last 5 or so years. It appears to still be r12. No markings otherwise.
About what should presure be at 65 degrees startup and then at 38 degrees.

You Guys were right! It had too much charge. Original it was showing around 30 psi on the low side. I would let it frost then bleed it off very slowly until the frost line was back in the cabinet. It took a few times as the frost line would crept back out as the inside temp got colder. Now its cycling off at 36 degrees with a low side reading of 15-18 and no frost outside.
