I was setting my ref. unit back into my 81 & the line broke, pin hole. It was bent to start with, but it still got real cold. Does the unit take r-12,
 or is it something different Thanks Mike

Its hard to find as they stopped making it years ago. There are substitutes that you can use but you have to have an HVAC license to buy any of them. You also need an acetylene torch or MAPP torch and pure silver solder to fix the hole. A regular torch and regular solder will not work at all. You will need a professional to do the work. As it will also need to have a vacuum pulled prior to recharge to get any air out and to remove any potential water in the lines. Any humidity in the lines will clog the cap tube and cause you a huge headache and then you need the proper gauges and know how to read them. Do you have a refrige guy? I go to an HVAC place and ask the guys in the parking lot and see what they say. If you get a company to do it the price tag will be very high but if you get a technician and offer him cash to do it off of the books for cash under the table you can get him to do it for a lot less.

I asked a a/c guy and he didnt mess with low pressure coke machine stuff, so i took it to a place that fixed the leak, put fitting on it and replaced freon with the new stuff.

Total cost $170.00
