Just to let the rest of you know that we did all hook up for dinner last night.  Not a very large crowd, but still enjoyable.  I was there with my son, Kyle, Rod and Janet, Dan Cooney, Tom from Jersey and his friend Jeff, Brian (seven181), Harrison and his wife, plus a few of Rods friends but I forgot their names.

I didn't go to the show today.  I am at work typing this thread.  I'll go on Saturday with my son.

I called Tom up and he reported nothing out of the ordinary.  The only thing I can verify is that it is raining outside.  I'll let someone from the show chime in later.

Thanks for the update.. Larry.. I was probably more bummed out about not seeing everyone at dinner, but we'll have to do it up big again in the Fall.

I'll try to remember to take my camera tomorrow. Some of the vendors get a little pissy if you take pictures of their booth! I have gotten into it a few times in the past!  veryangry

That's when you say "Oh sorry! I think you do nice work and was going to ask for your card, but.." And then walk away.
What have they got to be ashamed of?? Oo oh

It's polite to ask if they would mind if you take a picture first, it's been know for someone to take pictures of booths to later follow the owners home & stake out their storage unit for a later visit by a pack of thieving weasels...it has happened in the past...

Went to the show today and there were no people in the parking lot.  Yesterday I heard it was scarce due to the rain.  A few cool things inside but nothing too special.  The coolest thing I saw was a Jennings pay out pinball game from the thirties.

This wouldn't have been a good show to travel to.  Thirty miles for me is no big deal.  Hundreds of miles, not worth it.  I hope the next show is better.

It was a so-so show. Weather was terrible on Friday morning! Was out there at 4:15 am, like a nut. A few others were there as well! Are we crazy or what! Picked up two Minnit Pop Popcorn machines, one really early that was delivered and one that is the later version. Also bought a degranger candy machine and a Pepsi S&S 700 cooler with the embossed sides. Will post pics in the next week or so. Fall show is much better.

I wasn't even in or near Chicago, but still had a something picked up and delivered from there.
actually it came from NJ, delivered to Chicago, and then picked up by another person who brought it to me...
A Popperette Popcorn machine, restored over 10 years ago... that I have already sold in a package deal to a guy with a Vendo 81b I'm doing for him..
I just didn't want to be left out of the Chicago show conversation... laugh

It was restored about 10 years ago the seller said, I wouldn't say "Fully Restored" but gone through cleaned up and repainted. The paint shows age and lack of quality, the insides where cleaned, but not polished Like I do when I restore one... but overall its' nice and I had a buyer looking for one, located this one and purchased it for him. He just wanted me to Go through it for him, which I''ll be doing this weekend...

There was a 81B in the parking lot Friday morning and it was sitting behind this guys truck. Everyone kept asking if anyone knew who's it was and how much it was. But nobody knew anything about it. It was a crappy Friday morning so the seller of the machine did not get out there till later. I was looking at another machine across the way and just happened to see the owner of the truck standing on the side of his truck. So I went over and asked if this was his 81B and he said yes, I asked how much and he said 250 which I thought he meant 2,500. I talked to him a little bit and someone else came up and asked the same question, and again he said 250. So I finally asked him if it was 250 or 2,500. He said 250 dollars. At this point there were about 6 guys swarming the machine like bees at the bee hive. Another guy and I said we would take it at the same time. The guy said he would sell it to me seeing how I had been asking about it first. So I ripped the 250 out of my pocket as fast as I could and paid the man. It's not very often that you get to buy an 81 for $250.00. It was just luck being at the right spot at the right time.  biggrin

Rod,
That is incredible... and Great score.. It just floors me that this guy, must be a collector of something , so he decides to come to the chicago show to sell his stuff..You'd just think that maybe somewhere in his travels or if he's been at the show before or at any auction etc.. he would have seen one of these machine sell for MORE that 250.00? but Hey that is what makes this show great.. you just never know what you'll find!

by the way I'll give you 350 for it!  biggrin biggrin

Come on John - you know markup is a standard 50% - try $375!
It doesn't happen often when the stars line up for you, but it is nice when they do.
Great score Rod!

And where are the pictures.....
or is it missing the rack, shelves, coin door and mech!
Maybe that is why it was $350! laugh

Well done Rod...

John, you are absolutely right.. Why would a guy lump a machine to Chicago without first doing a little bit of homework.
He was clued in enough to know the show was there so you would think he'd know the going price. Very strange
but go on you Rod for taking the time to have a chat with the guy and securing the deal

And there's the other side where a guy lugged a Pepsi 27 with the enclosed based in the back of his van... asking $2600!!!!!
It was a nice original maybe a 8 out of 10 but $2600!!??... I would like to know what he came down to... doubt he sold it.

I have to add my 2 cents to the thread
The part I look forward to the most about the show is the thursday evening dinner at Portfillo's. As usuall, it was great to see all the familiar faces. And I must say that it was that much nicer when someone covers your dinner. Thanks Larry!! The weather was totally disagreable on friday and saturday, but there were still deals to be had. A big thanks to Larry for the delivery of my vendo 27, and Rod and Janet for my Mr Cola bottlecap.
I'm already looking forward to the fall show. I'll be picking up some cool projects, and seeing some goods friends again.........
