Required equipment:
Couple of drops of liquid dishwashing soap in a cup of warm water.
A needle or pin and a credit card.
Dish or pan big enough for the decal.
Micro fiber towel.

Clean and dry surface decal goes onto. Apply a light coat of the dishwashing water to the surface where the decal goes.
Add warm water to the pan for the decal. Don't drown the decal just hold it flat and get it covered. Let it soak a bit. It should start to release from the paper backing.
Slide it over the desired location. Use warm water and credit card to smooth out wrinkles starting in the center and working out. If air bubbles use the needle to poke.
Damp micro fibre towel to remove excess water. Blot gently.

Must be done quickly. The decal will tear once the glue starts to set up. I'd practice with some cheap decals first.

Hope others chime in with additions/corrections

Thank you very much! worked perfect, brought me back to my model airplanes as a kid.  Ill take regular stickers any day though, they are still a pain.
