I finally get a business trip to a nice warm place after this miserable winter.. I'm going to LA/Hollywood area for a work and couple of extra days to sightsee, my wife is coming along and the in-laws got the kids.. Sounds great.. Just saw the weather report... Severe weather next 5 days. Lots of rain, wind, cold nasty weather...

And if Murphy's Law holds true, it'll probably be sunny and nice where you are now. It is supposed to be 70 here on Friday. It was 68 today.

Thats exactly what is happening.. We are expecting the same weather.

I feel your pain.  I went to a convention in San Diego in October--you know, the place where it never rains and the weather is always perfect!!!  Four days of overcast and it rained two of the four days we were there.  The weather was nicer in Michigan that week as well.

Regardless of the weather, if you get a chance go to Newport Beach or Balboa Island and take a walk along the beach!

Surf will build rapidly across the central coast on
Wednesday... likely peaking on Wednesday night and Thursday
morning. During the peak of the event... breakers of 10 to 14 feet
can be expected across the central coast with Max sets to 16 feet
possible... which will likely require the issuance of high surf
advisories as we draw closer to the event.

South of Point Conception... surf will build Wednesday evening...
then peak late Wednesday night into Thursday. During the peak of
the event... west facing beaches of Ventura and southern Los
Angeles counties can expect breakers of 5 to 7 feet with local
sets to 8 feet. Areas vulnerable to the higher surf include
Ventura Harbor... as well as southern Los Angeles County from Santa
Monica to Palos verdes.

Area beachgoers should be prepared for strong rip currents during
this high surf event. In addition... there will be the potential
for minor coastal flooding and beach erosion during times of high
tide. The greatest concern will be Thursday morning when high tide
over 6 feet can be expected around 8 am.

There are a ton of indoor things to do in LA and even some of the big parks like Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farms & Universal Studios may be an option as they are almost empty when whether is questionable.

Of course there is Moondawg in Ventura and he probably knows a few things around him for a day trip adventure.

Or you could just tell your boss that next week looks better for you.

WHere are you staying in LA?

Even if the weather is crappy, go down & check out the surfers.  They will be out playing in this stuff.

Manhattan Beach has a nice pier & fancy-pants downtown (just up the hill from the pier) for checking out expensive shops, etc.  THe pier is a great place to check the surfers; they hang out on the south side of it surfing.  Take a walk down the strand (sidewalk that runs down the beach) and check out all the mega expensive homes.  Even in lousy weather it is cool to get down to the beach.

LA has changed a whole lot since I called it home.  The beaches were ritzy then; it is mega rich now.  My brother-in-law lives in Manhattan Beach now & we visit when we can.  It blows my mind the size of the mansions that have been built along the strand since I lived there. 

I lived in Hermosa & Redondo Beach in the early 90's for a bunch of years.  It was a great place to live just after college. 

If you want some real good authentic mexican food (to go only), you got to check out El Burrito Jr. located at 919 Pacific Coast Highway on Redondo Beach.  I go there everytime I am in LA.  Don't let the look of the place turn you off; it looks like a hole-in-the-wall Mexican joint.  The food is incredible!!!

Last time we were in LA with the family it was rainy & cold.  We grabbed food at El Burrito Jr., went back to Manhattan Pier & watched the surfers from the car.

Definitely ask the guys that live out there what to do in the Hollywood area.  In seven years of living in LA I was only up there a few times (we had no use for Hollywood; we lived way out at the beach)

I wanted to get to the beach, just to see the pacific. I'm an Atlantic Ocean guy, and the few times I've been to LA have been quick in and outs.. never any time to explore.. I drove from LA to SF, but straight shot, no stops.. I'm working on Rodeo in Beverly Hills and we are staying up by Universal.. Got a friend to visit on Santa Monica as well.
