Cleaning the condensor

Can I clean the condensor with the garden hose if I made sure to shoot the water away from the compressor? I was thinking about doing this but was kind of nervous about actually trying it out.

when I use a power-washer ( or any water source) to clean a very clogged condenser coil, I always put a heavy piece of 1/4" plywood ( or an equivalent ) behind the coils to prevent the water from getting into the condenser fans electric motor & shorting it out (and if it does get in, it will short it out. )

the compressor itself is a sealed unit, but the electrical terminals under the side-cover aren't so avoid this area too. as well as the main wiring harness where the compressor plugs into.

I have the whole refrigeration system out of the machine right now so I can hose it out through the other side. I just wanted to see if it was ok to do so. Would it be a good idea to wrap a plastic bag like a grocery sack over the compressor to keep water out of the side cover? I can put the electrical stuff like the fan motor on top of the refrigeration stand I build so it is out of the way.

It worked out pretty well. I wrapped the compressor and condensor fan motor in two grocery sacks and taped it all up so no water could get in and then sprayed the hose through so it shot out through the front. Lots of junk came out of there.
