So, as many of you know, I have a V56 that has the solid bottle door.  My question is about the aluminum type squares that adorn it.  Mine were painted and I was wondering if anyone knows how to repair or replace this section?  Suggestions??  help  help  help  help

Ahh.. the old wood grained V56.. I remember that one..
I know some guys say you can cut out that section, and put glass in there, personally can't see that being too easy, as ou have to have a steady hand cutting that just right, but then you need the Glass assembly for the inside, including the stainless steel holders and such,, so not an "Easy" task as some suggest.
if you are restoring it keeping that solid door, I'd just strip the whole door , sandblast, chemical whatever your using when doing the whole machine, get the door painte red like your machine, and then tape it off, and hit the waffle pattern with a silver /aluminum colored paint.. that is about the best solution I can think of , and not hard to do..

I'm putting glass in my 56 door.  I took the door apart and then I used a 3 1/2" angle grinder to remove the metal where the aluminum was from the backside.  It took maybe 10 minutes and came out perfect. It's very easy to do.

It's not really hard at all. Start with 1/4" holes in each corner of both panes to achievve the rounded corners. Then cut with the die grinder and/or jig saw. The cut will not be perfectly straight but can be finished with a circular grinding disc.
Glass retainers can be made using 3/4" U channel. 3 panes of glass and 1/4" sponge tape between them completes the job.

Thanks all!  I think I will try the easiest route 1st and spray the panels.  If I dont like the look I will tear into the door with a jigsaw.  Thanks for the tips all!

I love this forum!

Can you post a couple of pics of how it looks?  I went ahead and decided to cut out the panels to make it a glass door.  Just need to know how to mount now!!   biggrin
