I also have another question. Can the white and red RCA cables be used to wire up each speaker so I can hook it up to a TV or DVD player? I would really like to do that instead of using a headphone jack.

HI,

The white and red RCA is for the audio signal to and from a device i.e. from a DVD player to an input of a receiver, you will need some type of amplifier to power the speakers. Either a receiver, Note: if you are hooking them up to a receiver check see if there is ohms mismatch  between the speakers and the receiver.  Most home receiver have a 8 ohms output and if the speakers are 4 ohms,  what happens is at any given voltage drive level, a 4 ohms speaker will draw twice as much current as will an 8 ohms speaker.  So you don’t want to push the amp to its full capabilities if you are running a mismatch setup. This can cause too much current draw that can damage the receiver.

If you want to make it more portable take a cheap 2.1 computer speakers system and replace the two satellite speakers with the drive-in speakers. This will give you the amp to power your speakers and it will sound better with the addition of the subwoofer. It can be easy to convert from a 3.5mm jack to red and white RCA jacks

Ok I think I am going to go with the headphone jack then. I found these instuctions on how to wire them up with the headphone jack http://www.driveinmemories.com/images/wiring.htm and from the picture they are using the same speakers that Speco sells for replacements for drive-in speakers so I am going to wire it up like that. Thanks for letting me know about the RCA cables though.

What do you guys think about using these as a base for both my speakers and my parking meter? http://omaha.craigslist.org/for/1777360105.html They both use the same size pole and all I would need to do is cut the pole to the heigth I need and then I can display the speakers.

I'll measure  my speaker stand, but I think all you'd have to to is remove the top cap and the rope grommets.
If it's the same size, it's a great idea. I was originally looking at an outdoor umbrella stand, then having to buy a 2" pipe to weld  on.
 
I'll have to check the local  restaurant supply store next time I need a stand

That is what I was thinking of doing anyway because the junction box seems to go over the pole so I don't need to worry about the cut part as much. I just thought it would be perfect and from what I saw on the internet the pole is 2" in diameter and that is what I was told I needed for both the meter and the speakers.

I tried out the speakers and found that the one I could test did not work and the other has a busted cord and theft proof screws so I could not test that one but I did order some parts from Speco and should be getting it fixed soon. Just going to get two new speakers, two new cords and a screw driver for the theft proof screws that the one speaker has. I don't want to drill it out because I worry about getting the screw stuck in the housing so I thought it would be easier to just get the driver.

I located a junction box today. There is a drive-in 100 miles or so away from me and I gave them a call and they said they can send me one for 10 dollars plus what ever it costs for shipping. I am pretty excited now. I'm not sure what kind of box it is but I think it may be the older style RCA junction box from what I can see from pictures online.
