While transporting my new found Coke Machine on its back I notice it seeped out some thick oil. Where did it come from and do I need to restore the oil? Any help is appreciated, I dont want to plug it in until I know what happened!

Bad news is your compressors' leaking oil or there is a hole in a line , maybe it got bent in trasport, more likely it wa bad from before hand, so was it in working condition when purchased? any way looks like you'll be needing to replace and/or repair it, what type of machine do you have here, everybody seems to miss this important bit of information, and of course a picture would help also. but you just can't add oil unfortunatly.

After further inspection I notice there is a drip pan with a hose going to it that held this sludge. It appears that it has some type of overflow. Oh well, Ill check everything out when I take it apart and restore it!

Well Merry Christmas to you!  Your compressor is probably allright. The sludge that spilled out is most likely old soda pop syrup, not compressor oil as we guessed earlier.
That drip pan catches the water that forms inside the machine. Here it evaporates.  When a product spills inside, it flows into the pan and stays, until of course you lay it down the first time. You're spared a bunch of money.
Plug it in and see if it cools. I bet it will.            Glen
