Do you redo the internals on pumps? (Does anyone?) Do they stink and can they be deodorized?
Tom, to answer your question... Most of the pumps I get wether I buy them or from a customer to restore have the pump guts removed already.. I think i've only ever run across a few with the original pumps still in them.. .and Man it makes them wiegh another couple hundred pounds! SO typically whats left in the pump is the main computer, the frame, the Site Glass Manifold (if equipped) and the light assembly. All of this gets removed, blasted , frame usually gets powdercoated and the other parts repainted , rewired, site glass mainifolds dissembled, soaked to get old gass smell out of them, cleaned, painted and reassembled. the Computers get soaked in my "SUPER SECRET SOAKING SAUCE" which loosens and removes all dirt, grime, dead mouse carcasses, bee's nests, etc... number wheels are cleaned , the whole unit powerwashed, lubed and usually just the bottom half gets a quick paint job to make it look nicer.. There are some guys, or actually only one guy I know who Restores these computers and i'ts amazing,, takes them completely apart ,cleaned, repainted and reassembled.. Meticulous work (Tom, you'd probably like him), kind of like working on a change giver mech I'd guess)... The main detail of the pump is the body, as the pumps I restore are for display only... so that gets the fully restoration treatment and they turn out great! They are acutally a pretty easy restore, compared to a soda machine, less moving parts, and pretty simple once you do it a few times..
