Hello, I'm new to this board.  I wanted to ask a couple of questions to the veteran collectors out there.  Regarding Coca-Cola Ideal 55 Sliders, I have seen two different versions.  The one that I usually see is almost completely red with the "fish-tail" Coca-Cola logo, but I've also seen one that has a white front body with "Drink Coca-Cola in Bottles" in red lettering.  Is one version more common than the other, and are there any other versions out there?

Also, which version are the embossed Coca-Cola Ideal sliders?

All red with fish tale logo is actually a Glasco 50 slider although almost identical to the Ideal 55.
The red with the white front slider is often the embossed 55 and is the most sought after.
Be carefull of embossed Coke sliders 'cause it's pretty easy to cut out the letters of an undesired flavor and weld the famous Coca Cola logo in it's place.

And welcome to the group  happydrinkers

Thanks for the reply MoonDawg, I appreciate the information.  As an example, what would you make of the slider in the link below?  It is the all-red with the fish tail logo, but it has the Ideal plate and serial information.  Is this really an Ideal?  (I'm not interested in purchasing, I'm just trying to educate myself on the various styles of Coca-Cola sliders out there).  Thanks!

Plus, the Coca Cola is not embossed.  That is a generic Ideal 55 with a Coca Cola decal.  Price is way too high.  You may have a hard time finding an embossed Coke 55 but you can get pretty good deals on other brands for much less than what this guy is asking!  BTW--the Pepsi looks like an Ideal 85.

Thanks guys.  I'm not interested in purchasing the slider above, I was merely showing the picture to ask whether there are any original Ideal 55 Coca-Cola sliders that are red with the fish-tail logo (not Glasco, but Ideal).  MoonDawg's initial response seemed to indicate there were not, so I wanted to see what this one was.

Aron,

It's a generic Ideal 55 with a Coca-Cola "Fishtail" decal on it. Very common, but not original.

Like Moondawg mentioned. The only cooler that came stock from the factory with the Coca-Cola "Fishtail" on it was the Glasco GBV-50.

For your reference, here's a picture of a Glasco GBV-50 with Fishtail. Hope this helps!

Thanks Brian, that does help.  So, if I'm understanding correctly, the only original style of the Ideal 55 Coca-Cola slider is the white front body with the red "Drink Coca-Cola in Bottles" lettering?  And in this white style, some were embossed and some were not?  Sorry to ask so many questions, just trying to understand the Ideal Coca-Colas!

Does anyone have a photo or a link to a photo of a genuine embossed Ideal 55 Coca-Cola slider?

Aron,

Here's a previous post about an embossed Ideal 55 Coke with a picture.  This should give you some good information.

Thanks Greg, I appreciate that -- there is some good information in there.  I had skimmed through some of the other threads but hadn't seen that one.  I've got an Ideal Coca-Cola slider that is identical to the one in that thread, except it is not embossed.  So mine would be known as a "generic" since it is not embossed, but still an original Ideal?
