I went to look at the popcorn machine yesterday and ended up buying it. Once again, the guys on this site are incredible. In the middle of nowhere South Dakota, I can pick up a cell phone and have Matt on the line walking me through this thing. Showing me how to access areas that haven't seen daylight for 50 years, what to look for, etc. wow - thanks Matt!!! Anyway, here is a picture - now I can start cleaning it up and figuring out what to do with it. I sent Matt quite a few pictures and he says there isn't a whole lot missing. The slug rejector is probably the main thing, and the wiring looks rough. I see it is the hot plate version and not the oil vat, so my fingers are crossed there..(thanks for posting the pictures Brian ).....

Bob's got the Popcorn machine bug! Is this two now? Looks to be in pretty nice shape. If someone has a picture(s) of what the slug rejector looks like, I can probably fix you up.
Matt - could a hot plate version be converted to an oil vat version??

Even in its current condition (meaning paint loss, not to offend), it's a damn beautiful machine. Congratulations!! Terry

It seems that all the vending machines left in this country have moved North. Nice find.
I was in Hibbing Minnesota to pick up a shuffle a few years ago and I was amazed to still see Ford gum machines still being used in stores. They left Chicago back in the seventies. Looks like I'll have to visit the Dakotas!!

If you have 2 you have to have a whole set. That's the rule.

Great find, Maybe I will find one of those one day. I lived in North Dakota for a few years and trust me there is still alot of stuff up there. Those small farm towns are full of treasures. I bought a complete Cavalier 72 a few years back just north of Sioux Falls, SD for under $300.00.

First off, CONGRATS Bob!!! That looks like a pretty nice machine, can't wait to see some interior shots. If you need any help getting it going, let me know, I'd be glad to help. Tom, You could convert one but you would need all of the parts that would make it an Oil Vat. It would be what I call a wiring regression. You would need: Popping Basket Heating Element Housing Dead weight and thermostat holder Oil Vat Liner Float Switch Body Float Switch Vend Counter and switch and the list goes on....... Long story short, yes, it could physically be done.

Even having some parts made, it might be a cheaper route than a new hot plate - no??
